Volvo serves juicy savings for Lancashire fruit haulier
A Lancashire-based haulier is saving up to £100 on fuel costs every day after introducing two new Volvo FH-500 6×2 tractor units to his fleet.
Mick Griffiths, MD of M J Griffiths Transport Ltd, admitted that he has been “very impressed” with the fuel economy of his first Volvos ever which are returning between 9 and 10 mpg at 44-tonnes.
“That’s 2 mpg better than other trucks in the fleet and we expect them to improve as their mileage increases,” he beamed. “We’re saving up to £100 a day on our fuel bill as a result of the two new Volvo’s economy.”
The two trucks have been supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials on a three year Volvo Contract Hire package with mileage expected to be around 900,000 kms during the contract term.
They will be used primarily for ferrying fresh fruit and veg to produce wholesalers in London and Scotland. These wholesalers include famous names such as Gordon Ramsay, Heston Blumenthal and even The Queen among their customers.
