DSA lines up theory changes

Changes to the theory driving are set to come into place from next year, in a bid to deter candidates from merely memorising the answers.

From 23 January 2012, the will cease from publishing multiple choice questions and answers and incorporate new unpublished questions.

New books and learning materials have been available since September to help candidates understand the workings of driving theory. Official explanations for every revision question also aim to help candidates fully comprehend the answer.

The has stressed that the format of the theory test will be unchanged with the familiar multiple choice and hazard perception sections remaining intact.

Rosemary Thew, Chief Exec of the DSA, said: “The new books contain questions and answers for revision and also explain the theory behind each question.

“This approach to learning will help candidates to gain a better knowledge and understanding of driving theory which will help them respond correctly to the new, re-worded live questions used in the actual test.”

Just last week, Transport Minister Norman Baker announced that learner drivers will be allowed on motorways for the first time from next year with a portion of the practical driving test taking place there too.

A new learning aid app has been released by the DSA while more traditional learning materials can be obtained from tsoshop.co.uk/dsa.
