November launch for ‘ingenious’ V60 Plug-In Hybrid
Volvo has revealed all on its forthcoming V60 Plug-In Hybrid.
Combining the characteristics of an electric car, hybrid car and muscle-car, the V60 Plug-In Hybrid will launch in November 2012 as the world’s first plug-in hybrid to come with a diesel engine.
The driver can switch driving modes and how it the car is powered at the press of a button, choosing to drive it on purely electric power for up to 32 miles, as a hybrid emitting 49g/km of CO2 with a range of 621 miles, while ‘Power mode’ draws on the diesel to deliver the maximum possible power and a 0-62mph time of 6.2 seconds.
“The most ingenious car in the world”
Priced from £45,000 before any Government grant is added to the equation, it’s safe to assume that the V60 Plug-In Hybrid will appeal mostly to business users on the lookout for something a bit different in the EV field.
The order book will open early next year and Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation, says its reception has been warm so far.
“Our plug-in hybrid has received considerable attention since it was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011,” commented Mr Jacoby.
“We expect the order books to fill very quickly. The most discerning customers have many exclusive cars to choose between.
“But for anyone who truly wants to be in a league of their own behind the wheel of the most ingenious car in the world, there’s only our V60 Plug-in Hybrid.”
Initially, the model will launch with just one colour – Electric Silver with ‘generous’ spec including aero-designed 17-inch wheels, integrated exhaust tailpipes, speed-dependent power steering, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, parking sensors front and rear, Bluetooth phone link as well as a multimedia DVD audio system with 4x40W amplifier, eight loudspeakers and seven-inch screen.
As for the ‘Plug-In’ bit, the V60 Plug-in Hybrid can be recharged from a regular power outlet (230V/6A, 10A or 16A) with a complete charge taking 3.5 hours with a 16A charge, 4.5 hours with 10A, or 7.5 hours with 6A.
