Highways Agency to undertake drainage works on the M5 junctions 4a to 5

The Highways Agency started overnight drainage maintenance work on the between junctions 4a and 5 this week on both the north and southbound carriageways.

The work will all be done overnight between the hours of 7pm and 6am each night except Sunday and is expected to last until mid January depending on weather conditions.

Drainage along this 8.1 mile stretch of the M5 is being replaced to prevent the carriageway flooding in the future.

Lane closures will be used to allow road workers a safe working area to complete the work. These will be clearly marked using the Highways Agency motorway matrix message boards and signage on the roadside.

Purnima Kaul, Highways Agency project manager, said:

“This improvement project has been carefully planned to allow works to be completed safely, in a cost effective way while keeping disruption to road users to a minimum.

“Motorists are advised to check their route before they travel and allow extra time for their journeys where needed.”
