Tuesday is crash day for company car drivers
Friday has long been considered the day where most car accidents occur [so the Mail says], however not so for company car drivers.
Fleet management specialists Zenith claims the contrary when it comes to company car drivers, with its research finding that in the typical working week, Tuesday was the worst day for road accidents amongst company car drivers and Friday the quietest.
Zenith puts this down to irregular working patterns with business meetings and travel more likely to be scheduled for towards the front end of the week.
The data was obtained through Zenith’s on-line fleet diagnostic tool, Pulse, and also found that 64% of all accidents occurred while the company car driver was on business, but more than 10% happened when driving to or from work.
The most common cause of accidents with 40% involved an third party hitting an unattended Zenith vehicle, 21% of which where an unknown third party. 18% of accidents were due to Zenith drivers colliding with objects while 2% of all accidents involved hitting animals.
Ian Hughes, Zenith’s Commercial Director, said the company’s ability to gather data provided them with a vast amount of information and opportunity.
He explained: “Pulse is constantly assessing statistics and trends and this will help our customers to target high risk drivers, and take appropriate mitigating action to reduce accidents and incidents.
“Understanding which drivers and journeys are most at risk helps our customers to make important policy decisions; so that they can run a fleet as safely and efficiently as possible.”
