Skoda Yeti bags two more awards
Skoda’s Yeti has been named ‘4×4 of the Year’ by two separate magazines in their end of year honours lists.
With sales up by a third on 2010’s performance, 2011 has been a rather notable year for the model as the Yeti takes its trophy tally to six for the year.
4×4 Magazine placed the Yeti number one in the Mid-Range class; a well-deserved ranking said Editor Nigel Fryatt.
“When you consider ‘fit for purpose’ and ‘value for money’, the Yeti is an impressive machine,” he explained.
“The version with the full off-road electronic terrain options is more than capable of coping with conditions way in excess of what is likely to be attempted by potential owners – surely the creed of the true off-roader.”
Value
Meanwhile, Total 4×4 Magazine also named the Yeti the best 4×4 of 2011, along with the mag’s ‘Special Award for Best Value’.
Editor Alan Kidd revealed that judges were caught off-guard by how the superiority of the Yeti.
“This year we were ready for it – but it still took our breath away,” explained Alan.
“It’s brilliantly conceived and superbly built, good to drive on the road and it’ll do remarkable things in the rough. What’s not to love? There are very few 4x4s, at any price, that I’d be happier to see on my driveway.”
Robert Hazelwood, Brand Director for Skoda, was glad the Yeti’s strengths were being appreciated: “These two awards from the specialist 4×4 press are the icing on the cake for 2011. Their experts have put the Yeti through rigorous off-road tests.
“The Yeti is an astonishingly versatile vehicle and there’s plenty more to come from it in 2012.”
This year saw production figures for the Yeti exceed 100,000 with a Chinese plant set to pick up orders from 2013 to meet demand and annual sales of the 4×4 on track to come mighty close to the 5,500 mark.
The Yeti also came fourth as the most satisfying car available in Which? Car’s satisfaction poll earlier in the year [link].
