Three in four wary of car crime
Are you wary of your fleet vehicles being hit by car thieves? You’re not alone after a survey revealed that nearly three quarters of Britain’s drivers are worried that their car could be stolen or broken into.
In a poll of 2,500 motorists, car insurers Admiral found that 74% were concerned that they could fall victim to car crime.
However, it would appear their concerns are unnecessary and groundless with car crime significantly less frequent in the last 10 years, according to Admiral’s own claims data. The proportion of claims made as a result of stolen cars has plummeted from 0.54% in 2001 to 0.16% last year.
Admiral MD Dave Halliday believes this anxiety is a product of economic unease and the state of the country: "Our statistics show that car crime has been falling for several years now, so maybe worrying about it is undue.
“Modern cars have excellent security features with manufacturers making them more and more difficult to steal, which must have some impact on the number stolen or broken into.”
That doesn’t mean car owners should become complacent: “Motorists should always make sure their car isn’t an easy target for thieves by parking it in a well-lit area, not leaving items on show, and making sure their keys are kept in a safe and secure place should someone gain access to their home.”
