SEAT to launch new Ibiza
An all-new SEAT Ibiza is to arrive this spring, as SEAT give the model line-up a refresh. A key-seller for the Spanish brand, the Ibiza offers amazing breadth in its range, with everything from the sporty Ibiza FR to the ultra economical Ibiza E Ecomotive with 89 g/km of CO2. Three body styles are available; a three-door Ibiza SC , a five-door as well as an estate version which offers 430 litres up to a maximum of 1,164 litres.
The Ibiza is one of the best-selling models in its segment across Europe. Since the launch of the fourth generation car in 2008 more than 500,000 people have opted for one. Now in its latest guise, the Ibiza continues to deliver a sporty look, one of the main attractions customers have reported of the car. The flatter proportions and horizontal honeycomb structure of the grille and the lower air intake emphasise the car’s width. The bumpers front and rear have been redesigned, with a look that is particularly accentuated on the sporty Ibiza FR version.
But of course it is not just about looks, with SEAT also giving the model an improved equipment list. A new SEAT Portable Media System plus sat nav system and hands-free device ensure the car is well-equipped.
What’s more, the latest-generation state-of-the-art TDI and TSI power units, the DSG transmissions and the start/stop system combine to offer the car strong driving dynamics with exceptional efficiency. The range of petrol units extends from the economical 1.2-litre 60 PS to the 1.4 TSI with supercharger and turbocharger. A peak power figure of 150 PS and standard-fit DSG transmission catapult the Ibiza to 62 mph in just 7.8 seconds. In the new Ibiza, this power unit is now also available in the ST estate version, creating an Ibiza ST FR for the very first time.
Particular efficient is the new Ibiza 1.2 TSI Ecomotive, which delivers 105 PS and maximum torque of 175 Nm at just 1,550 rpm, yet sips an average of just 5.1 litres/100 km – thanks also to start/stop technology that is fitted as standard.
Even more efficient are the diesel engines. The new Ibiza’s TDI engines at their most efficient in the Ibiza 1.2 TDI E Ecomotive averages fuel consumption is a mere 3.4 litres per 100 km, equating to a first-class CO2 figure of 89 g/km – in all bodyshell variants. Yet the compact hi-tech TDI delivers strong performance with its 75 PS and very respectable peak torque of 180 Nm. The sporty pinnacle of the Ibiza diesel line-up is the 2.0 TDI with a 143 PS. No competitor in this segment offers such a powerful diesel; no other masters the combination of performance and efficiency so successfully – a top speed of 130 mph comes with an average fuel consumption of just 4.6 litres per 100 km.
CO2 emissions, fuel economy, performance are preliminary data at the moment and relate to left-hand drive models. Full details of UK trim levels, prices and technical specifications are expected to be announced soon, as the Ibiza launches in the UK this spring.
