Toyota dealership achieves BREEAM environmental excellence
A Toyota dealership in Enfield has been recognised with the highest honour in environmental performance, with a BREEEAM Excellent rating; the world’s foremost buildings assessment for best practice in sustainable design, construction and operation.
Jemca Toyota Enfield’s £11 million centre was designed right from the drawing board for environmental performance, demonstrated by intelligent systems in areas such as energy conservation, carbon emissions, water and materials recycling and operating noise levels.
Key elements that have helped secure BREEAM certification include the use of a bio-mass boiler and the design of workshop and office areas to maximise use of natural light, with electric lighting adjusting automatically in line with the level of daylight. Rainwater is collected and filtered on site and reused for car washing.
Targets have been set for the site’s CO2 emissions and performance is tracked through continuous monitoring of power consumption. Measures have also been taken to reduce noise pollution by installing plant equipment with low background noise.
Simon Boxall, Jemca Toyota Franchise Director, said: “We are immensely proud that our new centre has obtained the BREEAM Excellent certification, it is the highest recognition for what we have achieved at Enfield in terms of reducing our environmental footprint.
“The major investment we have made in the development sustains Toyota’s commitment to minimising the environmental impact of all areas of its business, not just through the manufacturing of clean and fuel-efficient vehicles.”
Jemca Toyota Enfield is the first Toyota centre in the UK to gain the BREEAM Excellent certification. Toyota GB worked with Space Projects Ltd in designing the centre and continue to work with the firm to achieve similar high environmental standards with further centres.
