Kia sees fleet sales nearly double for 2012

Kia has kicked off 2012 promisingly with fleet sales up by almost half.

The Korean brand shifted 4,282 new cars during January, an improvement of 38% on the same month in 2011. This gave 3.32% of the UK car market and the 14th biggest market share.

Unsurprisingly, fleet played a part in Kia’s blossoming success with fleet sales up by 42.4% while private buyers helped boost retail sales by 33.6%.

Michael Cole, MD of Kia Motors UKMichael Cole [pictured], MD of Kia Motors UK, hopes that 2012 will be Kia’s most successful year yet.

He said: “It’s a great start to the year for us and it builds upon a solid performance last year.

“All-new Picanto and all-new Rio have proved popular with customers since coming to us during the second-half of 2011 and Sportage is continuing to do very well with both retail and fleet customers alike.

“With the recent launch of the Optima, we have brought all-new A-, B- and D-segment cars to the UK market in under eight months. With all-new cee’d, our C-segment family car, set to be unveiled at the forthcoming Geneva Motor Show, we’re predicting that 2012 will be Kia’s best ever year in the UK.”

Kia will also drop the curtain on a new concept car this week at the Chicago Auto Show – the Trackster.

Below is the only image of the vehicle which rings echoes of the opinion-dividing Soul but just how much will become clear this Wednesday (8 February).
