REMINDER
OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY
Drivers using motorways and trunk roads in the East of England are being advised to plan their journeys in advance as the Olympic Torch passes through the region.
The Olympic Torch arrives in the East for the first time on 3 July heading from Stamford to Peterborough, for the region's first evening celebration. The relay then passes through Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Southend, Basildon, Chelmsford, Cambridge, Bedford, St Albans, Luton, Milton Keynes, and Oxford, and many communities in between.
Delays are expected on the A12 at Lowestoft on the morning of 5 July and the A5 at Dunstable on the morning of 9 July where closures of these roads are necessary for safety of spectators and safe passage of the Torch. In addition the exit slip roads at M1 junction 11 will be closed for a short while on the morning of the 9 July to allow the torch to pass through the junction on the A505. M1 J11 - J13 BEDFORDSHIRE, CLOSURE FOR BRIDGE DEMOLITION
The M1 will be closed overnight for 16 hours between Junction 11 (Luton) and Junction 13 (Bedford) while a bridge over the motorway is demolished. The motorway is scheduled to be closed from 8pm on Saturday 30 June until midday on Sunday 1 July while the 1,400-tonne bridge at Junction 12 is removed. The reinforced concrete bridge, which used to carry the A5120 over the M1, has not been used since a new bridge opened in May, and needs to be demolished to make way for new slip roads at Junction 12.
NEW WORK
A12 HATFIELD PEVEREL, BRIDGE UPGRADES
Work to resurface and improve drainage on a bridge which carries Station Road in Hatfield Peverel, Essex, over the A12 will begin on Sunday 1 July. The majority of the work will be carried out during the day between 7am and 11pm, Monday to Sunday, and temporary traffic lights will be in place on Station Road. Some overnight work will also be necessary, when lane closures on the A12 will be in place. The work is due to be completed by Saturday 21 July.
A14 STOWUPLAND, BRIDGE MAINTENANCE
Work to replace the joints on the A14 Stowupland Road bridge will begin on Monday 2 July. The work will start each night at 8pm and will finish the following morning at 6am, for four nights. While the works take place there will be a lane 1 closure on the A14 eastbound and a full closure of the B1115 Stowupland Road in both directions with a diversion in place.
A14 J22 BRAMPTON, SLIP ROAD REPAIRS
Work is taking place for two nights from 3 July between 7pm and 6am the following morning to repair the carriageway on the westbound exit slip road. Diverted traffic will be directed to continue westbound to Brampton Hut roundabout at junction 21 and return eastbound to exit at junction 22.
A14 SPITTALS INTERCHANGE ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
Work is taking place for nine nights from 2 July between 9pm and 5.30am the following morning to repair to the road surface on the bridge, renew all road markings on the Spittals Interchange gyratory and install traffic counter loops on the junction 23 westbound exit slip road. The northern section of the interchange will be closed on 2 and 3, 23 and 24 July. The westbound exit slip road and southern section of the interchange will be closed on 4 and 5 July. The southern section of the interchange will be closed on 6, 14 and 15 July. Diversions will be in place.
M11 J13 CAMBRIDGE, SLIP ROAD REPAIRS
Work is taking place for 15 nights from 2 July between 8pm and 6am the following morning to repair the carriageway on the northbound exit slip road. Traffic will be diverted via the A14, A428 and A1303.
M1 J10 TO J13 BEDFORDSHIRE, HARD SHOULDER SCHEME
Work is taking place to provide additional capacity on the motorway by converting the hard shoulder into an extra lane. Upgrades are also being carried out to bridges along the route. Traffic is being diverted along the opposite carriageway for part of the route, and a 50mph speed limit is in place. The following slip roads will also be closed between 10pm and 6am:

ONGOING WORK
SPEED LIMIT ON A1 SOUTHBOUND AND NORTHBOUND NEAR PETERBOROUGH
A 50mph speed restriction remains in place on the southbound and northbound carriageway of the A1 at Water Newton for safety reasons.
A1 HINXWORTH, DRAINAGE MAINTENANCE
Lane 1 of the southbound carriageway and the turning into Hinxworth Road will be closed between 9:30am and 3:30pm weekdays for 10 days from 25 June. A 50mph speed limit will be in place. Traffic wishing to join the A1 will be diverted into Hinxworth village to use the High Street to Edworth and join the A1 southbound. Traffic wishing to exit the A1 at Hinxworth road will be diverted along the reverse route.
A12 GREAT YARMOUTH, RESURFACING WORK
The southbound carriageway of the A12 will be closed overnight for six nights between the roundabout at William Adams Way and the roundabout for Gorleston-on-Sea while resurfacing work takes place. The 1.6-mile stretch of road will be closed from 8pm to 6am from Thursday 28 June until Thursday 5 July. A diversion will be in place.
A14 J41 NEAR RISBY, REPAIRS TO THE CENTRAL RESERVATION
Work to repair the central reservation around the Barrow Heath bridge on the A14 near Risby, west of Bury St Edmunds, is taking place during the night until Friday 13 July. The work will start each night at 8pm and will finish the following morning at 6am. It will affect both lanes in both directions and traffic management cones will be in place from the entry slip road of Junction 40, eastbound, and from 800m prior to the Risby flyover, westbound. A 50mph speed limit will be in place on the approach, and a 40mph speed limit through the roadworks.
M1 J14 NEWPORT PAGNELL, LIGHTING UPGRADES
Work to upgrade the street lights at Junction 14 near Newport Pagnell on the M1 is taking place during weeknights until Friday 13 July, starting at 10pm and finishing at 5:30am the following morning. Slip roads and lane 1 of the main carriageway will be closed as follows:
.Newport Pagnell services southbound entry and exit slip roads: 5 July
.Junction 14 northbound entry slip road: 3-4 July
.Junction 14 southbound entry slip road: 6, 9 and 10 July
Diversions will be in place.
