A 55,000 pound Highways Agency project to boost safety along a single carriageway section of the A66 at Embleton in Cumbria will get underway next week.
The village, which is east of Cockermouth, is to benefit from improved signs in advance of road junctions as well as improvements to road markings on junction approaches.
The project is due to start on Monday (9 July) and be completed by Sunday 22 July.
Most of the work for the project will be done overnight with lane closures and convoy working with drivers being taken past roadworks in convoys led by a contractor's vehicle.
Some limited daytime working will be taking place with two-way traffic lights in place during off-peak hours to allow the safe installation of the advance junction signs.
The Highways Agency says the scheme should improve safety, with after 17 personal injury accidents over the last four years around three of the village's junctions with the A66 between Lambfoot House and East House.
Highways Agency project sponsor Neal Symmons said, "Larger, clearer signing in advance of these junctions combined with improved road markings will give drivers more time to take driving decisions and reduce shunt-type accidents along the route. Most of the work is taking place overnight when traffic along this section of the A66 is very light so we don't anticipate any significant delays with this work."
