The Highways Agency will be carrying out essential re-surfacing work, on the M62 westbound carriageway between Junction 23 at Outlane and Scammonden next week.
The work will also include new road markings and road studs, and will take place in two stages to avoid being in place when there are Olympic football matches in Manchester. The first stage will start on Monday night, 16 July until Saturday morning, 19 July. The second stage will start on Wednesday night, 8 August and be completed by Friday morning, 17 August, assuming there are reasonable weather conditions.
To minimise any disruption to drivers, work will take place overnight between 9pm and 6am. In order to carry out the work safely there will be overnight lane closures on the westbound M62 and a 50 mph speed restriction will be in place during these closures.
In addition to the lane closures, it will be necessary to close the entry slip road at Junction 23 (Outlane) for two nights on 16 and 17 August between 9pm and 6am. While the slip road is closed a clearly signed diversion route will be in place to use Junction 24 (Ainley Top) via the A643 Lindley Moor Road and the A629 Blackley New Road.
Highways Agency project manager Alan Apps said: "When completed these works will prolong the life of the carriageway and improve road safety. Every effort has been made to ensure disruption to traffic and residents is kept to a minimum."
"During the works we advise road users to plan their journeys to avoid delays. Safety is our top priority and for the safety of road users and road workers we encourage all drivers to drive carefully past the works and along the diversion routes, keeping within the speed limit, and concentrating on the road ahead."
