East of England Roadworks Update: Monday 16 – Sunday 22 July 2012

The following information summarises the work being carried out this coming week. It is correct as of the above date but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. See www.highways.gov.uk/news for more information.

NEW WORK

A11 WYMONDHAM, CARRIAGEWAY REPAIRS
Work to repair the carriageway on the A11 in both directions between the Tuttles interchange and Spooner Row in Wymondham, is due to take place from 14 July for 15 nights between 8pm and 6am the following morning. The southbound carriageway will be closed between 14 July (pm) and 22 July (am) and the northbound carriageway between 22 July (pm) and 29 July (am). A 50mph speed limit will be in place in advance of the works and local diversions will be in place.

A12 COLCHESTER BYPASS NORTHBOUND, CARRIAGEWAY REPAIRS

Work to repair the carriageway on the northbound A12, Colchester bypass between junctions 27 and 28 is due to take place from 18 July for two nights between 8pm and 6am the following morning. The A12 northbound will be closed between junctions 27 and 29 and traffic will be diverted via the A133 and A1232.

A14 GIRTON TO SPITALLS INTERCHANGE, CARRIAGEWAY REPAIRS

The A14 will be closed between junctions 31 (Girton) and 23 (Spittals) eastbound from 16 July and westbound from 2 August for surfacing work to be carried out. The eastbound carriageway will be closed each night between 16 and 27 July. The work will be undertaken overnight between 9pm and 6am on Monday nights, 8pm and 6am Tuesday to Thursday nights, and 10pm and 8am Friday nights. Contingency closures may occur between 8pm and 9am Saturday nights and 10pm and 5am Sunday nights. The westbound carriageway will be closed from 2 to 10 August, The work will be undertaken overnight between 9pm and 6am weeknights and 10pm and 7am Friday nights. Contingency closures may occur between 8pm and 9am Saturday nights and 9pm and 6am Sunday nights. Road users will be directed to follow a clearly signed diversion route via the A1 and A428. Local diversions will be clearly signposted.

A47 FAIR GREEN TO MIDDLETON, NORFOLK, RESURFACING

Resurfacing of the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the A47 between Fair Greenand Middleton, near King's Lynn, will take place from 17 July for two nights between 8pm and 6am the following morning. Both carriageways will be closed overnight between the Hardwick and the Swaffham roundabouts and traffic will be diverted via the A10, A134 and A1122.

A120 HORSLEY CROSS, ESSEX, RESURFACING

Resurfacing of the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the A120 at Horsley Cross, Essex, will take place from 19 July for 3 nights between 8pm and 6am the following morning. There will be part-time traffic signals to allow traffic to come through the works, a 40mph speed limit will be in place in the approach to the works and a 10mph speed limit within the works.

ONGOING WORK

M1 J10 TO J13 BEDFORDSHIRE, HARD SHOULDER SCHEME

Work is taking place to provide additional capacity on the motorway by converting the hard shoulder into an extra lane. Upgrades are also being carried out to bridges along the route. Traffic is being diverted along the opposite carriageway for part of the route, and a 50mph speed limit is in place. Please note, the J10-11 section is now complete and the managed motorway on this section is live.

M11 J13 CAMBRIDGE, SLIP ROAD REPAIRS

Work is taking place for 15 nights from 2 July between 8pm and 6am the following morning to repair the carriageway on the northbound exit slip road. Traffic will be diverted via the A14, A428 and A1303.

SPEED LIMIT ON A1 SOUTHBOUND AND NORTHBOUND NEAR PETERBOROUGH
A 50mph speed restriction remains in place on the southbound and northbound carriageway of the A1 at Water Newton for safety reasons.


A12/A14 COPDOCK INTERCHANGE, BRIDGE UPGRADES

Resurfacing and maintenance work will be carried out to two bridges on the Copdock Interchange, which connects the A12 to the A14 near Ipswich. The work will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am, from Monday 9 until Saturday 21 July, and diversions will be in place.


A12 HATFIELD PEVEREL, BRIDGE UPGRADES
Work is taking place to resurface and improve drainage on a bridge which carries Station Road in Hatfield Peverel, Essex, over the A12. The majority of the work will be carried out during the day between 7am and 11pm, Monday to Sunday, and temporary traffic lights will be in place on Station Road. Some overnight work will also be necessary, when lane closures on the A12 will be in place. The work is due to be completed by Saturday 21 July.


A14 SPITTALS INTERCHANGE ROAD IMPROVEMENTS

Work is taking place between 9pm and 5.30am to repair the road surface on the bridge, renew all road markings on the Spittals Interchange gyratory and install traffic counter loops on the Junction 23 westbound exit slip road. The northern section of the interchange will be closed on 23 and 24 July. The southern section of the interchange will be closed on 14 and 15 July. Diversions will be in place.

A47, TILNEY ALL SAINTS, ROUNDABOUT RESURFACING

Resurfacing work will take place for three nights from Wednesday 11 July on the Shoreboat Roundabout at Tilney All Saints near Kings Lynn. The work will be carried out overnight from 8pm until 6am, and is due to be completed by Saturday 14 July. Diversions will be in place
