Drivers in Merseyside are being advised that overnight work to resurface and improve a section of the A5036 north of Liverpool city centre will get underway at the end of the month.
The 275,000 pound Highways Agency project at the western end of the route is due to begin on Friday 27 July with improved anti-skid surfacing and renewed road marking as well as resurfacing being delivered.
The project, which is taking place along a one mile section of the dual carriageway between the Bridge Road Roundabout and A5038 Netherton Way, is due to be completed by Friday 31 August.
The work will be carried out nightly, between 10pm and 5am each night, in two phases with the westbound carriageway being resurfaced and improved first and requiring a full closure of the carriageway for the overnight working.
The second phase of the project will focus on the eastbound carriageway with both lanes again closed overnight.
The route will only be closed in one direction at a time with a diversion in place with eastbound traffic leaving the roundabout re-joining the A5036 from Netherton Way via the A567 Bridge Road and Linacre Road, A566 Lineacre Lane onto the A5038 Bailey Drive and Netherton Way. The reverse of this diversion will be in operation for traffic diverted from the A5036 at Netherton Way.
HGVs travelling east will be asked to use the A5058 Balliol Road route out of Bootle instead - picking up the A5038 Southport Road south of Netherton Way with the reverse route in operation when westbound closures are in place.
Bus stops along the A5036 between Bridge Road Roundabout and Netherton Way will close overnight when the carriageway is closed affecting some late night services.
Highways Agency project sponsor Jakub Malaj said, "This maintenance project is vital to ensure users of this important route linking Liverpool and the docks to the motorway network can continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys. We are doing the work overnight when vehicle flows are lowest to minimise disruption to drivers and other road users but we appreciate that this may result in some noise and inconvenience to local residents and we will be working hard to reduce the impact of the roadworks on local people.
