Monday 16 July - Sunday 22 July 2012 A traffic management summary for both new and ongoing work The information provided in this report is correct as of the above date but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. A31 Canford Bottom Junction Improvements Work to upgrade the Canford Bottom Junction on the A31, near Wimborne in Dorset is due to be completed this week. The A31 will be closed in both directions between both the Canford Bottom and Ameysford roundabouts and between the Canford Bottom and Merley roundabouts for four nights from Monday 16 July. The closures will be in place between 8.30pm and 6am. Access to and from the four local roads adjoining the roundabout (Ham Lane, Canford Bottom Road and Wimborne Road West - both sides) will also be closed. During all closures clearly signed diversion routes will be in place. A34 Kings Worthy to Three Maids Hill Resurfacing Work Work continues this work to resurface the A34 between the Kings Worthy and Three Maids Hill junctions. Work started on Monday 25 June and is expected to take up to four weeks. It will be carried out overnight between 10pm and 6am, Monday to Friday. The A34 will be closed between its junction with the A303 (Bullington Cross) and the A33 (Kings Worthy). Road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion route via the A303 and A33. Work to the southbound carriageway is now complete. The northbound carriageway will be closed overnight on Monday 16 July and Tuesday 17 July. The northbound entry slip roads at its junction with the A272 (Three Maids Hill) will also be closed as required. A34 Newbury Ground Investigation Work Ground investigation work will be carried out on the southbound A34 near Newbury, prior to future embankment repair work. One lane will be closed overnight between 9pm and 6am near Speen on Monday 16 July and near Enborne on Wednesday 18 July. A34 Hinksey Hill Interchange Carriageway Maintenance Work Resurfacing and white lining will carried out on the northbound exit slip road at the Hinksey Hill Interchange. The northbound exit slip road will be closed overnight between 10pm and 6am for five nights from Monday 16 July; road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion route via the Botley Interchange. A404 Bisham Carriageway Maintenance Work Surface repairs will be carried out on the northbound A404 near Bisham, on the approach to the A404/A308 Marlow Road roundabout and between Burchetts Green and Temple. One lane will be closed with a speed limit of 40mph on the approach and road users escorted past the work site using a convoy at 10mph overnight between 10pm and 6am for four nights from Monday 16 July The northbound entry slip road at the Burchetts Green junction will also be closed; road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion route via the A404(M) junction 9b roundabout. A404 Bisham to Marlow Carriageway Maintenance Work Surface repairs will be carried out on the northbound A404 between the Bisham Roundabout and Quarry Wood Road Bridge. One lane will be closed with a speed limit of 40mph on the approach and road users escorted past the work site using a convoy at 10mph overnight between 10pm and 6am for two nights from Thursday 19 July. A404(M) Carriageway Maintenance Work Anti-skid surfacing will be carried out on the southbound A404(M) this week. The southbound carriageway will be closed between junction 9a and the M4 junction 8/9 roundabout overnight between 10pm and 6am for three weeknights from Monday 16 July and overnight on Friday 20 July. Road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion route. M4 Junction 14 (Hungerford) Bridge Support Replacement Scheme A major maintenance scheme continues this week to replace the bridge supports on the M4 Junction 14 roundabout near Hungerford. There is a lane closure and reduced 30mph speed limit on the junction 14 roundabout below the motorway. On the exit slip roads at junction 14, drivers should use the left hand lane if they are taking the first exit at the roundabout, and the right hand lane for any other exit. Road users are advised to drive with extra care through these roadworks, and to be aware that site traffic will be using the single lane section on the roundabout to access the centre of the roundabout. The work is expected to be completed in December. M4 Junction 14 Carriageway Maintenance Work Road surface repairs continue this week on both carriageways of the M4 at junction 14 (Shefford Woodlands). Lane closures and a temporary speed limit of 50mph are in place overnight between 9pm and 5.30am for 15 nights (Monday to Fridays only) from Tuesday 3 July. There will also be overnight closures of the slip roads at Junction 14. The eastbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed each night this week. Road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion route. M3 Junction 4 Bridge Maintenance Maintenance work on the Blackwater Valley Viaduct, on the M3 at Junction 4 near Frimley, continues this week. The work will repair concrete on the bridge and maintain the safety and long-term serviceability of the structure. The hard shoulder across the bridge will be closed throughout the work, and there will be narrow lanes in place on the A331 under the bridge. M3 Hawley Lane Bridge Strengthening Work A scheme to strengthen the M3 Hawley Lane Bridge, just south of junction 4 near Farnborough, continues this week. A new bridge pier will be installed along the centre of the structure to maintain the safe standard of the structure. Work started on Monday 5 March with no restrictions on the M3, and a 30mph speed limit on the B3272 which runs under the motorway. The work is expected to be completed by the end of October. Work will primarily be carried out during daytime hours, with some work carried out overnight between 10pm and 6am and at weekends. M271 Embankment Works Work starts Monday 9 July to improve the embankment and carry out minor drainage repairs north of junction 1 near Nursling, Southampton. It is due to be completed by 20 July. The hardshoulder of the northbound carriageway approaching the junction with the M27 will be closed 24 hours a day with lane 1 being closed during off-peak daytime hours between 9.30am and 4pm. A3 Burpham to Dennis Resurfacing Work Resurfacing work will be carried out on the southbound A3 between Burpham and Dennis Interchanges. The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight between 10pm and 6am for three nights from Monday 16 July. The northbound carriageway will also be closed on Wednesday 18 July for surface works. Road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion for both closures.
