East of England Roadworks Update: Monday 23 – Sunday 29 July 2012

The following information summarises the work being carried out this coming week. It is correct as of the above date but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. See www.highways.gov.uk/news for more information.

NEW WORK

A120 STEBBING BROOK BRIDGE, ESSEX, SURFACE REPAIRS

Work to carry out surface repairs and fencing repairs to the Stebbing Brook Bridge in Stebbingford, Essex, will take place from 23 July for 10 days between 9am and 6pm. The access road only will be affected but access will be maintained for local business at all times through a stop/go board system.

M1 J10 TO J13 BEDFORDSHIRE, HARD SHOULDER SCHEME

Work is taking place to provide additional capacity on the motorway by converting the hard shoulder into an extra lane. Upgrades are also being carried out to bridges along the route. Traffic is being diverted along the opposite carriageway for part of the route, and a 50mph speed limit is in place. The following slip roads will also be closed between 10pm and 6am:

Monday 23 July - Junction 13 southbound: traffic will be directed up and over the junction via slip roads
Tuesday 24 July -Junction 13 southbound entry and southbound exit
Wednesday 25 July - Junction 13 northbound exit, Junction 12 northbound entry, Junction 13 southbound entry
Thursday 26 July - Junction 13 northbound exit, Junction 13 southbound entry, Junction 11 southbound entry
Friday 27 July - Junction 13 southbound entry
Saturday 28 July - Junction 12 northbound entry

ONGOING WORK

M1 J10 TO J13 BEDFORDSHIRE, HARD SHOULDER SCHEME

Work is taking place to provide additional capacity on the motorway by converting the hard shoulder into an extra lane. Upgrades are also being carried out to bridges along the route. Traffic is being diverted along the opposite carriageway for part of the route, and a 50mph speed limit is in place. Please note, the J10-11 section is now complete and the managed motorway on this section is live.

SPEED LIMIT ON A1 SOUTHBOUND AND NORTHBOUND NEAR PETERBOROUGH
A 50mph speed restriction remains in place on the southbound and northbound carriageway of the A1 at Water Newton for safety reasons.

A11 WYMONDHAM, CARRIAGEWAY REPAIRS

Work to repair the carriageway on the A11 in both directions between the Tuttles interchange and Spooner Row in Wymondham, is due to take place from 14 July for 15 nights between 8pm and 6am the following morning. The southbound carriageway will be closed between 14 July (pm) and 22 July (am) and the northbound carriageway between 22 July (pm) and 29 July (am). A 50mph speed limit will be in place in advance of the works and local diversions will be in place.

A14 SPITTALS INTERCHANGE ROAD IMPROVEMENTS

Work is taking place between 9pm and 5.30am to repair the road surface on the bridge, renew all road markings on the Spittals Interchange gyratory and install traffic counter loops on the Junction 23 westbound exit slip road. The northern section of the interchange will be closed on 23 and 24 July. Diversions will be in place.

A14 GIRTON TO SPITALLS INTERCHANGE, CARRIAGEWAY REPAIRS

The A14 will be closed between junctions 31 (Girton) and 23 (Spittals) eastbound from 16 July and westbound from 2 August for surfacing work to be carried out. The eastbound carriageway will be closed each night between 16 and 27 July. The work will be undertaken overnight between 9pm and 6am on Monday nights, 8pm and 6am Tuesday to Thursday nights, and 10pm and 8am Friday nights. Contingency closures may occur between 8pm and 9am Saturday nights and 10pm and 5am Sunday nights. The westbound carriageway will be closed from 2 to 10 August, The work will be undertaken overnight between 9pm and 6am weeknights and 10pm and 7am Friday nights. Contingency closures may occur between 8pm and 9am Saturday nights and 9pm and 6am Sunday nights. Road users will be directed to follow a clearly signed diversion route via the A1 and A428. Local diversions will be clearly signposted.

A120 HORSLEY CROSS, ESSEX, RESURFACING

Resurfacing of the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the A120 at Horsley Cross, Essex, will take place from 19 July for 3 nights between 8pm and 6am the following morning. There will be part-time traffic signals to allow traffic to come through the works, a 40mph speed limit will be in place in the approach to the works and a 10mph speed limit within the works.
