Reminder: M4 closed overnight eastbound between junctions 3 and 2 for essential technical repair and safety work

Road users are reminded that the M4 eastbound will be closed overnight tonight (Wednesday) between junctions 3 and 2 for essential technical and safety work.

The work will maintain safe journeys along the M4 and ensure that the Highways Agency can monitor traffic flows, respond to incidents and continue to provide up to date information to road users during the Olympics and beyond.

The work will take place between 12.30am and 5am and will involve essential repairs to the safety barrier which was damaged during an incident on Monday 23 July. This will maintain safety along this section of the M4. During the closure repairs will also be carried out to two cameras.

The work is being carried out overnight, when traffic levels are lowest, to minimise disruption to road users.

A clearly signed diversion via the A4 and A312 will be in place during the closure.

Passengers arriving late into Heathrow tonight (Wednesday) will need to follow the diversion route.

All road users are advised to allow plenty of time for their journeys.

If for any unforeseen reason the work cannot take place tonight, the closure and the work will instead take place tomorrow, Thursday. This is only a contingency, but if it is needed we will update road users as soon as possible.

This work is not connected to the recent repair work on the Boston Manor Viaduct which is near junction 2 and is also not connected to the operation of the M4 Games Lane which operates for 3.5miles eastbound between junctions 3 and 2.
