Incident causes long delays on the M1 near Watford Gap

27 July 2012

Drivers are being urged to avoid using the southbound M1 between junctions 16 and 17 near Watford Gap, as a serious incident at approximately 11.50 this morning has led to long delays. The motorway is currently closed northbound from Junction 16 and there are two lanes running southbound past the scene. Although signed diversions are in place, the Highways Agency is advising motorists, particularly those attending the Olympic opening ceremony in London, to plan alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys. The Highways Agency has set electronic signs across the motorway network to warn drivers of the delays and is advising motorists to check traffic conditions before setting out on journeys.
