East of England Roadworks Update: Monday 6 – Sunday 12 August 2012

The following information summarises the work being carried out this coming week. It is correct as of the above date but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. See www.highways.gov.uk/news for more information.

NEW WORK
A14 JUNCTION 23, HUNTINGDON, EASTBOUND SPUR EXIT SLIP ROAD
Work is taking place overnight between 28 and 30 August to install four direction signs and to renew roadmarkings. Between 21.00 and 05.30 traffic wishing to exit the A14 at junction 23 will be diverted to exit at junction 24 [Godmanchester] to rejoin the westbound carriageway to return to junction 23.

A421, ELSTOW CARRIAGEWAY REPAIRS
Work is taking place overnight between 3 and 12 September for repairs to sections of the road surface and a renewal of roadmarkings. Between 20.00 and 06.00 lanes 1 and2 Eastbound and the A603 entry slip will be closed to traffic.
A421/A603 - A421/A6 closures
Traffic wishing to travel westbound on the A421 will be diverted northbound onto the A603 Cardington Road, A5134 Cambridge Road and southbound on the A6 to rejoin the A421 at Elstow Roundabout. [Eastbound same diversion in reverse.]
A421/A603 - A421/A428 closures
Traffic wishing to travel eastbound on the A421 will be diverted northbound onto the A603 Cardington Road, A5140 Longholme Road/Newnham Avenue and eastbound on the A4280 to rejoin the A421 at Renhold interchange.

A14 JUNCTION 59, EASTBOUND, TRIMLEY
Work is taking place overnight on 10 August to improve the road surface, renew roadmarkings and replace road studding. Between 8pm and 6am traffic will be diverted via the A1156, Felixstowe Road, Link Road and Howlett Way, rejoining the A14 at junction 59 Trimley/Kirton.

A14 JUNCTION 59 and 60, TRIMLEY
Work is taking place overnight between 13 and 15 August to improve the roadsurface, renew roadmarkings and replace road studding. Between 20.00 and 06.00 there will be a full closure of the westbound carriageway between J60 Dockspur roundabout and the entry slip road at High Road, Trimley. Traffic will be diverted via Candlet Road, A154, High Road West/High Street and Howlett Way, rejoining the A14 westbound at J59 Trimley/Kirton.

A14 JUNCTION 61, Port of Felixstowe
Work is taking place overnight between 15 and 17 August to improve the roadsurface, renew roadmarkings and replace road studding. Between 20.00 and 06.00 there will be a full closure of the westbound carriageway on slip with convoy working between junction 61 to approx 50m past the A14 rail bridge. Traffic will be diverted via Trinity Avenue and Walton Avenue rejoining the A14 westbound at junction 62. Traffic will then be convoyed from junction 61 for about 1.5 km.

A1 BRAMPTON HUT SLIP ROADS
Work is taking place overnight between 13 and 15 August to repair the carriageway surface, renew roadmarkings and replace road studding. Between 20.00 and 06.00 there will be a full closure of Lane 1 north and southbound, the northbound exit and entry slips and the southbound exit slip. Diversions will be in place via other junctions on the A1.

A11 ROUNDHAM FARM [SOUTHBOUND]
Work is taking place overnight between 15 and 18 August to renew the carriageway surface, renew roadmarkings and replace road studding. Between 20.00 and 06.00 there will be a full closure of the southbound carriageway. Traffic will be diverted via the A11/B1111 Interchange.

A120 RIVER CHELMER BRIDGE REPAIRS
Work is taking place between 6 and 23 August to make repairs to the bridge which carries the A120 over the River Chelmer at Great Dunmow, Essex. Work will take place during normal daytime hours but there is no expectation of delays to road users.

ONGOING WORK
M1 J10 TO J13 BEDFORDSHIRE, HARD SHOULDER SCHEME
Work is taking place to provide additional capacity on the motorway by converting the hard shoulder into an extra lane. Upgrades are also being carried out to bridges along the route. Traffic is being diverted along the opposite carriageway for part of the route, and a 50mph speed limit is in place. Please note, the J10-11 section is now complete and the managed motorway on this section is live.

SPEED LIMIT ON A1 SOUTHBOUND AND NORTHBOUND NEAR PETERBOROUGH
A 50mph speed restriction remains in place on the southbound and northbound carriageway of the A1 at Water Newton for safety reasons. Work to repair the safety barrier and remove the temporary speed limit is due to take place early in 2013.

A14 GIRTON TO SPITTALS INTERCHANGE, CARRIAGEWAY REPAIRS
The A14 will be closed between junctions 31 (Girton) and 23 (Spittals) westbound from 2 August for surfacing work to be carried out. The westbound carriageway will be closed from 2 to 10 August, The work will be undertaken overnight between 9pm and 6am weeknights and 10pm and 7am Friday nights. Contingency closures may occur between 8pm and 9am Saturday nights and 9pm and 6am Sunday nights. Road users will be directed to follow a clearly signed diversion route via the A1 and A428. Local diversions will be clearly signposted.
