Motorists using the M1 in East Midlands and the M40 around Oxfordshire are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys as the ENI FIM Superbike World Championship is being staged at Silverstone on 3 to 5 August.
Steve Parker, emergency planning officer for the Highways Agency in the Midlands, said: "Motorists using the roads in the area over the weekend of the ENI FIM Superbike World Championship can help us to help them by planning their journey in advance and leaving extra time, as the roads on the approach to the Silverstone circuit are likely to be busy. We will use our electronic message signs on approaching motorways to give drivers information about any diversions and delays, and provide up-to-the minute traffic information using local radio. Those with Smartphones will be able to check the traffic conditions before they leave or when parked using our Highways Agency travel news app or can follow our Twitter feed at @HAtraffic_emids ."
Highways Agency Traffic Officers will be patrolling the motorways around Silverstone, paying special attention to the network around M1 J15A, to clear any incidents quickly, while staff at Highways Agency's East Midlands regional control centre will be monitoring the network via CCTV and other state-of-the-art technology to keep traffic moving.
