Advice to spectators travelling to Olympic football match at Cardiff 09 August 2012

09 August 2012

Spectators travelling to the Olympic football match at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Friday, August 10 are advised to plan their journeys and allow extra time. The Severn Crossings and routes into Wales could be busier than usual on Friday afternoon and early evening as spectators make their way to the stadium. The bronze medal match between South Korea and Japan kicks off at 7.45pm. Drivers are advised to allow extra time to travel over either Severn Crossing into Wales. Routes that could also be busy include the M5 southbound between junction 14 and junction 15 and the M4 westbound from junction 19 in to Wales. The M49 may also experience an increase in traffic during these times. Mike Wilson, Highways Agency Regional Director in the South West said: “We know that it will increase people's enjoyment of this match if they are able to make their way to and from the stadium with minimal delays. “Cardiff is a fantastic city so spectators may even like to consider spending the day there and avoid the busiest times on the roads. "Our advice to all road users is to plan their journeys and allow extra time as the routes into Wales could be especially busy before the match."
