East of England Roadworks Update: Monday 20 – Sunday 26 August 2012

The following information summarises the work being carried out this coming week. It is correct as of the above date but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. See www.highways.gov.uk/news for more information.

NEW WORK

A1 WYBOSTON BRIDGES, STRUCTURAL INSPECTION

A routine structural inspection of the A1 bridges at Wyboston will take place for two nights from 21 August between 8pm and 6am the following morning. Laybys, slid road and one of the two lanes will be closed at different times: northbound layby and northbound entry slip road on 21 August, and southbound layby on 22 August. A diversion for the slip road closure will be in place via the A1 southbound and the Black Cat roundabout.

A11/A14 WATERHALL BRIDGE, JOINT REPLACEMENT

Work to replace the bridge deck expansion joints on the A11 at Waterhall in Suffolk will take place for three nights from 20 August between 8pm and 6am the following morning. There will be a 50mph speed limit in force on the southbound carriageway of the A11 between the junction with Herringswell Road and the A14/A11 junction 38. In addition the southbound carriageway A11 Red Lodge Bypass will be closed. Traffic will be taken off the A11 at the Red Lodge Northern Junction, then along the B1085 through Red Lodge, rejoining the A11 at the southern junction. Traffic will then be lead through the works at the A14/A11 Junction in a convoy system.

A12 BOREHAM, PARAPET REPAIR

Work to repair and replace a damaged section of parapet on the south edge of the A12 Boreham bridge following an impact from a vehicle will take place for two nights from 20 August between 9pm and 6am the following morning. The A130 westbound carriageway will be closed between junction 19 A12/A130 east and west roundabouts. A diversion will be in place via the A12.

A421/A6 ELSTOW INTERCHANGE, PARAPET REPAIR

Work to repair the parapet on the East bridge (Luton Road) at the A4211/A6 interchange in Elstow will take place for one night from 20 August between 9pm and 6am the following morning. The westbound carriageway of the A421 will be closed at the interchange and traffic will be diverted via the slip roads.

ONGOING WORK

SPEED LIMIT ON A1 SOUTHBOUND AND NORTHBOUND NEAR PETERBOROUGH

A 50mph speed restriction remains in place on the southbound and northbound carriageway of the A1 at Water Newton for safety reasons. Work to repair the safety barrier and remove the temporary speed limit is due to take place early in 2013.
