Weekend overnight working along two A590 bridges near Ulverston in Cumbria will get underway next month.
Highways Agency contractors will be spending between four and six consecutive weekends removing loose concrete from Red Skye and Dykelands bridges between Lindal and Furness and Swarthmoor Road in Ulverston.
The two bridges carry the A590 over the main railway line to Barrow and the work will improve safety, reducing potential inconvenience for drivers and train users.
The scheme will be taking place overnight every Saturday night between 10pm and 10am from Saturday 15 September until Sunday 21 October.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place in the carriageway ahead of both bridges to manage traffic past the roadworks and the eastbound lay-by on Dykelands Bridge which incorporates a bus stop will be closed with an alternative stop 450 yards away towards Ulverston.
The work focus on one bridge at a time.
Highways Agency project sponsor Mark Mosley said: "Our routine inspection and maintenance regime has identified some areas of concrete becoming loose under the two bridges. This is normal 'wear and tear' and there is no immediate risk to rail or road users and the work won't affect the integrity of the bridges. We are taking advantage of overnight line closures to carry out this work and at a time at the weekend when traffic levels are extremely low. No delays of any significance are expected."
