A traffic management summary for both new and ongoing work

A23 Handcross to Warninglid widening
Main construction work on this major improvement scheme, which will make journeys on the A23 safer and more reliable, continues this week, with a reduced 40mph speed limit and narrow lanes in place 24 hours a day.
The northbound exit and entry slip roads will be closed at Warninglid in the early hours of Tuesday 28 August until mid-March 2013 to allow a new roundabout to be constructed. Road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion to the next junction.
A26 Quarry Hill
An 18-tonne weight restriction is in place on the northbound A26 Quarry Hill Viaduct. The viaduct passes over the A21 and heads into Tonbridge from Tunbridge Wells in Kent.
The restriction is a precautionary measure after routine inspections of the bridge identified that strengthening work may be needed in the future. The weight restriction will protect the integrity of the bridge while this is investigated further.
All vehicles over 18 tonnes will be required to follow a short diversion via the A21 northbound to Morleys Interchange, where they will be directed to return on the southbound carriageway and enter Tonbridge using the southbound exit slip road at Vauxhall Lane Interchange. Bus operators and emergency services vehicles are still able to use the route.
A27 West of Polegate Drainage
Work continues this week to install two new carriageway drains, one on each side of the road on the A27 between Folkington Road and Folkington Manor near Polegate, East Sussex. The work which began on Monday 25 June will, subject to weather, should be complete by mid-September.
Work will be carried out with one lane closed, overnight between 8pm and 6am, to provide a safe distance for road users from the open excavations required to carry out the work. There will be temporary traffic lights to allow vehicles to pass the work site and a temporary speed limit of 40mph will be in place overnight while the work is carried out. On some nights road users will be escorted past the works in a convoy at 10mph.
In order to install the new drains, trees adjacent to both carriageways at the works location need to be removed. At present it is thought between 10 and 12 trees will need to be removed however this will be assessed once work starts. These will not be replaced with new trees after the work is completed as the trees are part of the cause of poor road surface at this location.
A21 Hurst Green Sign Replacement
Lane closures and temporary traffic lights will be in place on the A21 next to the primary school in Hurst Green, East Sussex overnight between 8pm and 6am to replace the speed limit signs.
