A 750,000 pound Highways Agency scheme to improve the link roads from the M6 onto the westbound M62 at Croft Interchange near Warrington will get underway later this month.
All the work, which is due to start on Monday 24 September, will be taking place overnight, when traffic volumes are lowest. The work is expected to be completed by the end of October and will usually involve overnight lane closures on the link roads - sometimes with the hard shoulder in operation as a running lane.
The work includes tackling potholes as well as installing new safety barriers and will be done between 10pm and 5am most nights but with an extension to 7am at weekends.
The improvements are being made to the M6 northbound and M6 southbound link roads onto the westbound M62 and each link road will also close totally overnight for up to ten nights each - with fully-signed diversions in place using the motorway network.
Croft Interchange is where junction 21a of the M6 meets junction 10 of the M62.
While the work is taking place, a 50mph speed limit will also be in place along the link roads and to their approaches along the southbound and northbound M6.
Highways Agency project sponsor Jakub Malaj said: "This is important work to repair and improve the link between the M6 and M62 at this very busy interchange and will ensure motorway users can continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys. All the work will be taking place overnight so we are not anticipating any significant delays. However, people travelling around Croft Interchange after 10pm should leave a little extra time to complete journeys - especially on nights when one of the two link roads will be shut. On those occasions drivers will need to take a diversion - travelling onto the next junction and joining the opposite carriageway to access the westbound M62."
