M4 Junctions 16-17 near Swindon There are narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit between Junctions 16 and 17 on the M4 near Swindon as preparation works starts to demolish the Spittleborough Access Overbridge. Demolition will be carried out overnight between 19.00 hours on Saturday 17 January and 10.00 (am) on Sunday 18 January. A1M Junctions 58 to 59, County Durham 71870 Slight delays are expected on the A1M between Junctions 58 and 59 due to bridge repairs. There will be narrow lanes both north and southbound and a 50mph speed limit. Restrictions will be in place 24 hours. The works are scheduled until October 2009. Work on an innovative scheme to reduce congestion and improve traffic flows at one of the busiest junctions on the M32 motorway at Bristol is being planned by the Highways Agency. The system, called ramp metering, will regulate the flow of traffic joining the motorway on the entry slip road at junction 1 inbound of the M32. M62, Junction 27 (Gildersome), south of Leeds Slight delays are expected at Junction 27 (Gildersome) of the M62 due to roundabout improvement work. There will be various lane closures on the roundabouts and approaches until 28 February. Work takes place overnight 8pm to 6am. Narrow lanes will be in place over 24 hours. Philip Brown will be the first Statutory Senior Traffic Commissioner to be appointed by the Secretary of State for Transport, Geoff Hoon, under new powers in the Local Transport Act 2008. He will be formally appointed and take up his new role when the powers come into force in Spring 2009. The Highways Agency is expected to start work on a £2.1m scheme to resurface the northbound and southbound carriageways of the M6 between Junction 14 and Stafford Services, south of Junction 15 on Monday 12 January for six weeks. These essential resurfacing works are required to avoid the need for unplanned emergency repairs and possible disruption to drivers in the future. An innovative scheme to reduce congestion and improve traffic flows at some of the busiest junctions on the motorway network is to be expanded to include the M3 junctions 3, 4 and 4a on the northbound carriageway. The Highways Agency is due to carry out footway repairs and remove some trees on the A259 De La Warr Road starting Monday 12 January. The works, which will take place between 9.30am and 4.00pm involve the removal of trees on the A259 that pose a safety concern for drivers and pedestrians using the footway along the A259 De La Warr Road.
