Follow in Johnny Depp’s shoes

Experience America’s Midwest and retrace the steps of Depp’s John Dillinger in his latest film Public Enemies

To celebrate the UK release of Johnny Depp’s new film, Public Enemies, the largest car rental provider for international travellers to North America, Alamo Rent A Car, recommends the best Midwest driving routes on which Depp fans can trace their idol’s footsteps as legendary outlaw, John Dillinger.

Public Enemies, released in the UK on 3rd July, is filmed in several cities across the Midwestern states. These beautiful rural areas were specifically chosen for their isolation by Chicago-based gangsters like Capone and Dillinger in the 1930s.

Now the region is chosen by couples for romantic breaks and by families for the multitude of activities and outdoor adventures best enjoyed in the autumn.  Best known for its lakes, the region also boasts stunning mountain ranges, city culture, extensive shopping opportunities, national parks, zoos, wineries and the legendary Route 66.

“Renting a car is the perfect way to take best advantage of everything the Midwest has to offer”, explains Phil Eaton, Vice President at Alamo Rent A Car.

“It allows the freedom to explore at your own pace and to your own schedule.  I hope that the release of Public Enemies will give a well deserved boost to this region of the US that tends to get overlooked by British tourists.”
