Ian Plummer is now heading up Retail Operations for Volkswagen’s Passenger Cars brand.

Based at the VW’s UK HQ in Milton Keynes, Mr Plummer jumps ship after 15 years with Renault and takes over from Alex Smith who became Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles back in November (remember?)

After spending time as MD of Renault Retail Group UK and Director of Commercial Operations for Renault UK, Ian relished the prospect of tackling a fresh challenge on fresh ground.

Mr Plummer commented: “I am thrilled to be joining a brand with such a huge pedigree as well as ambition, and at what is a very exciting time given the pending arrival of a number of new products including the up!.

Account Manager ‘comes home’ to Epyx

Epyx has welcomed back Victoria Edwards as an Account Manager.

Vicky spent nearly three years as a Business Development Executive for the automotive IT solutions provider before joining Avis Rent-A-Car.

One year on and she’s back and as eager as ever.

“I’m really looking forward to ‘coming home’ to Epyx,” said Vicky.

“The 1link range of platforms have become the fleet and dealer industry standard, and I am looking forward to working with our leasing customers to help them realize the systems’ value.”

Ms Edwards replaces Ian Dubberley, who has taken a project consultant role within Epyx’s product development team.

Vauxhall ‘Ad’ new Fleet Marketing and Motability Manager

That wasn’t the only return to familiar ground this week as Paul Adler headed back to Vauxhall as their new Fleet Marketing and Motability Manager after two years with Saab GB.

Adler’s return fills the gap left by Steve Catlin who has become National Retail Sales Manager for Vauxhall.

James Taylor, Vauxhall’s Fleet Sales Director, said that Paul possesses significant experience in fleet and marketing positions.

He commented: “I am pleased to welcome Paul back into the team.

“Paul rejoins at a very exciting time for Vauxhall with an unprecedented six new model launches coming up this year including the Zafira Tourer and the Ampera E-REV.”

Pendragon Contracts bolsters sales team

Derby-based Pendragon Contracts has announced three new additions to its sales team.

Beverley Oliver steps into the position of Customer Relationship Manager to develop existing customer relationships in the north of England.

Meanwhile, Gareth Carr and James Hopkinson will have been named as Business Capture Managers, covering new business in the north and south respectively.

Collectively, the trio has accrued over 20 years of automotive and fleet experience.

John Given, Sales Director at Pendragon Contracts, commented: “The combined experience and expertise demonstrated by our new team members will ensure that Pendragon Contracts remains on target to achieve our growth goals and will ensure all our customers are supported effectively by knowledgeable, business-focused executives with a proven track record.”

Keith Bell has been named as the new quality manager within Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ Driver and Fleet Solutions team.

Mr Bell’s main duty will be to ensure a high quality of driver training for the RoSPA’s wide range of clients, from fleet managers through to anyone who drives for work purposes.

With 10 years’ experience, Keith joins after time with the AA carrying out fleet and instructor training before moving on to become a trainer of trainers and then a mentor for instructors.

Keith said he is looking forward to the new role and believes his appointment will be mutually beneficial.

He said: “It will be a two-way street, with me learning from RoSPA’s trainers as much as they will be learning from me.

“RoSPA continues to be at the forefront of promoting road safety in the UK.

“I hope to contribute to reducing accident rates and improving driver performance through RoSPA’s range of courses and fleet safety solutions tailored for organisations’ specific requirements.

“I will also be monitoring RoSPA trainers’ continuing professional development and providing feedback through a ‘hands on’ approach.”

Three newbies for Fleethire

Contract hire and fleet management specialists Fleethire has added a trio of talent to reflect the business’ growth.

Nicola Gullery and Aoife Patrick have been brought in to support Fleethire’s expanding salary sacrifice portfolio while Claire Feely will provide sales and administrative support in the promotion of Asset, HGV and PCP funding solutions.

Two-up at Fourways

Fourways Vehicle Solutions has strengthened its Business Development Team with two new additions.

The vehicle rental specialist has brought in two Business Development Managers in the shape of Andrew Plenderleith, 33, and Gemma Bathurst, 29.

Andy Brown of Shropshire-based Fourways believes the two appointments send a very positive statement regarding the company’s future development.

“I am incredibly pleased to have employed such capable professionals in Gemma and Andrew; people who know the vehicle rental industry inside out and will add tremendous value to our entire operation,” commented Andy.

Volkswagen Fleet Services (VWFS) has appointed Andy Stuart as Planning and Strategy Manager [pictured right].

The appointment marks Mr Stuart’s return to VW’s fleet operations after serving two years as Regional Fleet Manager from 2005.

“I’m really pleased to be returning to the fleet team,” said Andy (36).

“I know a lot will have changed since I was last here but I’m looking forward to the new challenge and to working with my colleagues to improve planning and supply issues for our fleet customers.”

Mr Stuart takes the place of Trevor Phillips – who moves over to Skoda – in his fifth official title at VWFS since joining first as a Graduate Trainee in 1998.

Vince Kinner, Head of Volkswagen Fleet Services, added: “This year will be one in which we consolidate a number of new projects and processes and start driving forward really positive change for our customers.

“I’m delighted to welcome Andy back on board to work with the team at this time. Trevor has done a great job and I wish him all the best for the future.”

Mr Stuart’s appointment follows the introduction of Rob Taylor [pictured] last month is acting as Marketing Manager for VWFS while Cheryle Kateley takes a temporary sabbatical after 15 years in the role.

A familiar face as the Volkswagen Group, Taylor has been SEAT’s National Communications Manager since 2006 after spending nine years with Audi.

Rob will handle Volkswagen Fleet Services’ marketing activities, including advertising, events and the fleet website. 

“I’m delighted to be joining Volkswagen Fleet Services at this time,” he commented.

“2012 will see a number of key new models join the Volkswagen range so it’s an exciting opportunity to be behind the communications of these products.”

Vince Kinner was sad to lose Cheryle for the time being but was glad to welcome Rob.

“[Mr Taylor] brings with him a wealth of experience in marketing and Volkswagen Group knowledge, and I look forward to working with him,” said Kinner.

Former Fleet boss becomes Renault Sales Director

Renault UK has named Darren Payne as their new Sales Director.

Mr Payne – who used to act as Renault’s Director for Fleet and CV Operations – will now be responsible for a newly formed sales department which brings together the Commercial Operations (sales network and franchising operations) and Fleet and Commercial Vehicle Operations departments.

Merging of the two departments comes in anticipation of Autumn’s Z.E. launch amidst plenty of model revisions.

Darren said: “I’m delighted to be taking on such an exciting challenge.

“With new versions of Twingo, Megane and Scenic all arriving in the next few months, together with the eagerly-awaited Twizy, Fluence Z.E. and ZOE models, and the expected deluge of enquiries for our Dacia brand in the lead-up to its January 2013 launch, it’s going to be a very busy year.

“With a great team in place and some genuinely exciting products, it’s a wonderful opportunity for us and our network to take full advantage.”

After joining Renault UK’s Board of Directors in October 2009, Darren has helped to improve the brand’s fleet sales.

“With his solid commercial experience, a fully-focused team supporting him and the imminent launch of a fresh product line-up in February, I’m confident of the results which will be delivered.”

Area Manager duo for Citroen

The appointment of two new Area Fleet Managers brought Citroen’s fleet sales team back up to full strength shortly before Christmas.

Simon Griffith (45) will act as Area Fleet Manager for Greater London and Essex while Mark Richardson (33) slips into the role of Leasing & Rental Manager for the Central England region.

Both gents boast a great deal of experience with Griffith bring experience from stints with Honda, Rover, and VW Audi while Richardson has spent time with AVIS and other leasing and rental companies.

Andy Wady, Citroen UK Fleet Director, said that the brand has achieved growth in its fleet business despite the economic downturn.

“The company’s success in this sector is underpinned by the launch of the premium DS line and our range of fuel efficient, low emissions cars and LCVs, all with real fleet appeal,” said Andy.

“The appointment of Simon and Mark, two highly experienced fleet professionals, will enable the Company’s corporate fleet and leasing & rental operations to build on that success in 2012.”

Fleet Logistics’ expansion into Nordic territory is set to benefit from the vast experience of Andreas Sorenesen.

As the fleet management specialists’ new strategic implementation and account manager, 34-year old Sorenesen is considered ideal to assist in Fleet Logistics’ developing operations in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland after previous roles at Europcar, LeasePlan and ALD Automotive.

Andreas will be based in Fleet Logistics’ Malmo office in Sweden and said he was delighted to be joining “at this exciting time in its development”.

“I was aware of Fleet Logistics when I was with ALD as we had several clients in common,” he said.

“I am really looking forward to bringing my knowhow of how a leasing company works to get the best deals for our fleet customers.”

He concluded: “I believe Fleet Logistics has huge potential for growth in the region and that multi-bidding is definitely the way forward for large international clients.”

Jaguar Land Rover announces new MD

Jeremy Hicks has taken up the reins at Jaguar Land Rover UK as the new Managing Director.

Jumping ship from Audi UK, where he was also MD for five years, Hicks’ move sees him reporting to Director of Group Sales Operations Phil Popham.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to lead two iconic brands in their home market,” said Jeremy [pictured below].

“Both Jaguar and Land Rover have their strongest ever product line up and I am very much looking forward to working with the JLR team to achieve continued success in the UK market.”

Jeremy’s appointment sees former Jaguar MD Geoff Cousins become Director of Jaguar Global Sponsorships & Partnerships while Colin Green, previously MD of Land Rover, moves into the role of Director of Global Dealer Operations.

Jaama makes it six with new tester

Management software specialists Jaama has bumped up its employee count yet again; this time with the arrival of software tester Adam Dunphy.

Business has been increasingly healthy of recent with new sales up by 40% on last year’s figures and this is reflected by the fact that Adam is the sixth addition to Jaama’s workforce this year alone.

Dunphy – a Leeds University graduate with a BSc Hons degree – will help Jaama’s software testing team improve product quality and customer service.

Jaama MD Jason Francis said this latest appointment illustrates the company’s dedication: “Software testing and quality control is a vital aspect of our goal to have the most advanced software in the market.

“We believe we now employ more full time software testers than is normal for a software company our size and this confirms our commitment to being the best at what we do.

Stuart Kerr names new CEO of Ford Retail

Fresh from its rampant success at the ACFO Awards [full story here], Ford Retail believes that Stuart Kerr is the man to lead the brand after former CEO Chris Hayden stepped down.

Kerr – previously Regional President for Volvo Europe – can draw on his significant experience of vehicle retailing and the sales and marketing aspects of the industry to build on the 75,000 vehicles sold every year and £1 billion annual turnover.

Roelant de Waard, Ford of Europe’s Vice President of Marketing Sales and Service, said: “Stuart is the right person to take on this important industry role and to build on the work done by Chris Hayden in profitably developing Ford Retail into a customer-focused business worthy of our best-ever range of products.”

Mycompanyfleet say their appointment of Jon Tandy as Business Development Manager was driven by his proven industry executive experience.

Honda name new General Manager

Philip Crossman has been appointed General Manager of Cars at Honda UK ahead of the launch of the new Civic this January.

After stints with Nissan and Peugeot, Crossman, 57, has made himself cosy at Honda, of which he has been a part of since August 2000, holding numerous positions throughout the organisation.

He joined as Regional Manager before being made Head of Sales (Cars) 18 months later. He was Head of Network Development for Honda Cars from October 2006 until a restructure in April 2010 saw him head up dealer development for cars, motorcycles, lawn and garden, energy, marine and ATV networks.

“Honda and our dealers have a great future,” said Crossman.

“The key is having a close working relationship, understanding the challenges of our dealer groups and individual businesses.

“With our Swindon plant back at full production and new Civic poised to hit the showrooms, the opportunity to grow our business and that of our dealers is right now."

Philip’s appointment is due to commence from the end of October, at which point Janice Kennedy, Honda’s Head of Cars Sales, will begin her retirement after six years in the post.

Fiat’s Fedrigo flocks back to Blighty

Fiat Professional has brought Sebastiano Fedrigo back to the UK to oversee all business activities of Fiat Group Automobiles UK’s commercial vehicle division as Director.

Despite spending the last two years in Turin as Fiat’s Area Sales Manager, Sebastiano has plenty of experience of the UK market. He was previously based in Watford as Iveco’s Regional Sales Manager and also had a stint in Slough as Fiat Professional’s Network Sales Manager.

“I am delighted to be returning to the UK to start work on this exciting new role for me,” commented Sebastiano.

“Fiat Professional is a serious proposition within the commercial vehicle sector and my plan is to build upon that. With the range of vehicles we have at our disposal I am sure we can continue to grow and develop our success.”

Wale to develop Suzuki Contract Hire

Suzuki is aiming to build on its corporate sales with the appointment of new manager Andrew Wale.

During his 22 year career in the motor industry, Wale has worked for Volvo and Nissan and was a founder member of Honda UK’s corporate sales team, managing their national leasing and rental contracts for five years.

Andrew will be able to draw heavily from his time with Honda with his first responsibility looking after Suzuki’s Contract Hire.

He commented: “I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to join Suzuki GB and help implement its corporate sales strategy, through developing our relationship with business customers, leasing companies and the industry guides, and also by providing the dealer network with the tools, skills and support they need to develop corporate and business sales performance.

“The Suzuki range of vehicles has excellent potential for gaining business, particularly with the Swift with its low emissions and strong cost of ownership profile, and with the small 4x4s for which the company has such an enviable reputation.

“We will be looking in particular at the public sector, where our vehicles can be of real value, not least the 4x4s with their ability to keep people on the move during winter weather. Salary sacrifice schemes, driving schools and Motability sales will also yield important prospects for us.”

Andrew’s appointment took effect from 14 October.

Tusker has brought over Candice Oosthuizen from Johannesburg as their new Marketing Manager in a bid to build up its award-winning SalarySacrifice4Cars scheme.

Reporting to MD David Hosking, Oosthuizen’s primary duty will be to develop Tusker’s SS4C programme which boasts over 65 live schemes in private and public sectors.

Candice leaves Nedbank, one of South Africa’s leading retail banks, but said she was delighted to be joining Tusker at such an exciting time.

“There is a really good vibe and culture at Tusker; the people are amazing and the product offering is excellent,” she commented.

“The company is growing rapidly and it is proving to be a fantastic place to work.

“There has been a huge take up and interest in SS4C in both the private and public sectors, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge of developing an outstanding product still further.”

David Hosking said he welcomed Candice with great enthusiasm.

GreenRoad announce new executive roles

The creation of four new senior executive roles will seek to cement and progress GreenRoad’s position in the fleet driving performance and safety management global arena.

Karen White has been named Vice President of Product Marketing and will manage global product strategy, planning and marketing while Tel Aviv-based Amir Oz climbs aboard as Vice President of Systems Engineering and Operations.

Bill Wathen brings 25 years of finance know-how to fill the Chief Financial Officer post with Dixie Baker becoming Senior Vice President of North American sales.

“These additions add a new level of depth and experience to our management team,” reckoned Chief Executive Jim Heeger.

“Each of these professionals brings proven expertise that will help us grow our global leadership of the fleet driving performance and safety management market.”

Mike Roe has been named as the new Managing Director for Fleet Operations and EuroFleeting.

Roe will oversee the day-to-day running of the fleet management businesses, freeing up time for founder Ross Jackson to focus on expanding into Europe as Chief Exec.

Jackson commented: “I am thrilled that Mike has decided to join the business; he brings a wealth of experience with him and an impeccable track record in the industry.

“We are aiming for further significant growth both in the UK and on the continent on the back of a number of major national and international contract wins and Mike’s knowledge and experience will be key.”

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles appoint new director

Alex Smith will become a director with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles from the start of November.

Smith has been with VW for the last four years, currently filling the role of Head of Retail Operations for VW Passenger Cars.

From 1 November, he will take up Simon Elliott’s former role who is moving over to VW Group Ireland as MD.

Alex Smith said: “I am looking forward to joining such a leading and growing commercial vehicle brand with one of the most efficient model ranges, an impressive network of dedicated Van Centres, and staff providing the best service to fleet and private customers alike.”

Familiar face returns as new Peugeot MD

Tim Zimmerman will resume work on British soil after 14 years in China to lead the UK division of Peugeot.

Zimmerman has been with Peugeot since 1986, holding numerous positions including Fleet, Leasing and Used Vehicle Director for Peugeot France and MD of Peugeot Netherlands. He will swap his current position of General Manager of Peugeot China in favour of the new role.

One of Tim’s first duties will involve launching the world’s first diesel electric hybrid – the 74mpg sub-100g 3008 HYbrid4.

“I am delighted to be returning to Britain and I relish the opportunity my new role gives me,” said Mr Zimmerman.

“I have long-standing acquaintances in Peugeot UK and its dealer network so I look forward to working with them again.

“I also return at a time of fantastic product rejuvenation within Peugeot with the stunning RCZ, 3008, 508 and 5008 all attracting new customers to the brand.”

Nationwide draw in Crowley for business development role

Steve Crowley has been recruited by accident repairers Nationwide as a Business Development Manager.

Following stints with Prudential and DPD UK, Crowley will be responsible for supporting the fleet market and local businesses in the South West of the UK.

He will develop relations with existing customers and work with Nationwide Repair Centres in the area to bring in new clients.

“All of the Nationwide Repair Centres in my region are excellent and are perfectly positioned to support local businesses; I am really looking forward to working alongside them in the months ahead,” commented Crowley.

“Nationwide has an exceptional range of services for fleet managers, and one of the most important elements of my role is to make new and existing customer aware of these – many people still assume that Nationwide ‘only’ offers insurance vehicle repairs.”

Steve Robertson will draw on his 30 years of fleet experience as he takes up the position of Head of Fleet & Business Sales at SEAT.

Robertson, 51, has been promoted from Head of Marketing after Nick Andrews jumped ship to Mercedes-Benz (read below for more on that).

“With much good work already completed, it’s a great time to be taking up the reins,” commented Steve.

“We have a tremendous opportunity to really develop our fleet offering with an even more concentrated focus on customer care and service levels.

“I want SEAT to become known in the fleet industry as the company that’s easy to do business with – and I know our network of fleet specialist dealers nationwide are already working hard towards that goal.”

Peter Wyhinny, MD for SEAT UK deemed Steve’s appointment “a fabulous gain”.

He said: “I have every confidence that he will lead the growing fleet team to significantly bigger and better things over the coming months and years.”

Mercedes-Benz name new fleet leader

Nick Andrews has been appointed by Mercedes-Benz’s new Head Of Fleet.

The newly created role is the result of a rejig in Merc’s Sales and Fleet department in preparation for an expanded model range.

Nick’s main area of concentration is building the brand’s current share of the market, specifically Commercial Accounts, Small Business, and Contract Hire and Leasing.

“This is certainly an exciting time at Mercedes-Benz,” said Mr Andrews. “The focus on restructuring this part of the business has led to some impressive results with the best ever market share achieved in 2010, which has continued and indeed risen this year.

“I will be maximising the opportunities that our current and new model line up presents, and ensuring that our entire network maintains high levels of standards, working together to achieve our longer-term goals of extending our 4% market share.”

After leading fleet sales for SEAT, Nissan and Volkswagen, Sales Director Mike Whittington was “delighted” at securing someone with Nick’s experience.

He said: “By appointing Nick to this new role at such a pivotal point in time, I am confident that his personal drive and fleet expertise will ensure we continue to exceed our objectives and build upon our success over the past 12 months.”

Former footballer joins Leasedrive

Chris Salmon has signed for the Leasedrive Group as the company’s UK Sales Manager.

Salmon had a promising future with Luton Town’s youth academy but medical issues meant that developing a professional career was a no-go.

Paul Fleming, Leasedrive’s Sales and Marketing Director, believes the beautiful game’s loss is the fleet industry’s gain.

“Chris is a welcome addition to the sales team as we seek to further develop our organic growth,” he commented.

“He has over eight years’ fleet sector experience in sales administration, customer service, account management and latterly as head of sales. 

“A highly motivated sales individual, Chris is excited about joining us following the successful integration of the Masterlease UK contract hire business and helping us achieve our ambitious new sales targets.  His passion for excellence in this business will strike a chord with our blue chip customers.”

Volkswagen Financial Services appoints Mike Todd

Mike Todd will take up the position of Business Development Director for Volkswagen Financial Services (VWFS) from the start of next month.

Todd, who will also join the Board of Management, is passed the baton from David Maloney who has head down under to fulfil the role of Managing Director of VWFS in Australia.

Graham Wheeler, MD of FVFS UK (is that enough acronyms for you?), said: “The Business Development role is a challenging position within the business ensuring VWFS remains at the forefront of innovation within our industry.

“Mike’s understanding of both our business and the industry as a whole made him the stand out candidate for this appointment.”

Mr Todd joins from the Lombard Group, where he was regional manager for ten years.

Former Kwik-Fit Fleet boss Mike Wise will head up the FleetTyres24.co.uk website on behalf of online tyre outlet Delticom.

As one of the tyre industry’s longest serving faces, Wise’s well-earned experience and knowledge of the business was certainly a big attraction for Delticom.

Mike said: “We will principally be targeting the SME market, however, any business large or small will be able to benefit from opening an account which can be done simply by visiting our website.

“We will be focussing on supplying tyres for cars, vans, trucks and motorcycles and in addition to a vast range of tyres we will be able to deliver low continental style pricing.”

Nationwide Accident Repair Services recruit new National Account Manager

Nationwide Accident Repair Services will aim to increase its presence in the fleet market with the appointment of Sarah Wilcox as National Account Manager.

After years in the fleet and customer service field, Wilcox will deal with national and large fleet operators and joins Nationwide at an encouraging time says MD Steve Thompson.

One of Sarah’s first objective will be to make clients familiar with the Nationwide brand.

Skoda has announced a few new names amongst its fleet sales personnel.

John Burton and Liz Johnson (pictured) have joined the Czech manufacturer as Fleet Sales Managers handing businesses with fleets of 30+ vehicles.

After spending the last decade with Peuegot, Liz will look after companies in East Anglia, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, while John has been assigned the East Midlands and North West regions.

Jane Roxburgh has also been promoted to Fleet Relationship Manager, five years after joining Skoda UK. She will lead ‘Fit for Fleet’ – a support initiative aimed at training up fleet retailers and boosting business.

Martin Burke, Head of Fleet Sales, said:  “We’re delighted to have two new members on board and I’d like to welcome both John and Liz to the Skoda UK team.

“They proved to be very strong candidates and their experience will definitely help to move the brand forwards in new directions.

Three big names become SMMT Vice Presidents

A trio of new names have been added to the SMMT’s list of Vice Presidents.

Tim Abbott, MD of BMW UK, Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover and Robin Woolcock, MD of Volkswagen Group UK have all been named Vice Presidents of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

It was a great personal honour for VW’s Robin Woolcock who said: “Having already been a member of the SMMT Board for 12 years, I hope I can use this experience to help guide the SMMT into the future.”

An equally proud BMW boss Tim Abbott added: “I am delighted to take up this post at such a fascinating time in the history of our industry.

“Never has this business been more dynamic or changing so fast and I know that everybody at the SMMT relishes tackling the challenges ahead.”

Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth also commented: “Automotive R&D and advanced manufacturing is one of the UK’s leading export industries making this an important and exciting period as our sector leads economic growth.

“I am delighted with this appointment and look forward to working with the SMMT to help shape the future of the UK motor industry.”

The three men will join existing VPs Bill Parfitt CBE, Chairman and MD of GM UK and John Neill CBE, Chief Exec and Deputy Chairman for Unipart Group.

“This is an important time for the UK automotive sector as it continues to lead economic recovery, attract inward investment, develop new ultra-low carbon technology and manufacture products for global export,” concluded SMMT President Nigel Stein.

Success sparks reshuffle within Renault’s fleet team

There has been a bit of a rejig amongst the fleet team at Renault following its fruitful start to 2011.

The French manufacturer is keen to build on success seen during the first six months of this year where fleet orders generated through Renault’s dealer network jumped by over a quarter (28%) in comparison to the same period in 2010.

Renault hope to keep its 200+ strong fleets happy with Patrick Whyman, Manager of National Corporate Sales, leading one Pro+ sales team with Mark Hawkins, Manager of National Fleet Sales, looking away sub-200 vehicle fleets.

Both managers will report to Darren Payne, Renault UK’s Director of Fleet and Commercial Vehicle Operations, who said: “These changes have been well received so far, so consistency of service will now be our number one aim.

“The team and the Pro+ dealer network have done a great job in growing our fleet business consistently in recent months, so I’m sure this revised set-up with greater focus will allow us to get even closer to our customers, as well as delivering a more personal service.

“Much like with the creation of the Renault Business Promise a year ago, we’ve listened to the needs of our customers and developed our working practices to fit around them.”

Kia have created the position of National Rental and Leasing Manager to up its dominance in the British fleet market.

Andy Dunsdon will fill the role, stepping up after three years as Kia’s Regional Business Fleet Sales Manager.

John Hargreaves, Head of Fleet and Re-Marketing, was delighted with Andy’s promotion.

He said: “We have strong ambitions in the fleet market over the coming years, and have some fantastic product to do it with, so having the right people, with the right experience, in place to tell our customers about this is vital.”

Andy’s appointment comes in anticipation for another six months of strong fleet sales at Kia with the Rio and Optima scheduled to go on sale before the end of the year.

Mr Dunsdon, who has built up fleet experience at General Motors and Saab, added: “I’m excited to take on the challenge of expanding our partnerships with major rental and leasing partners and developing even stronger ties with our existing clients.

“Kia has been on a relentless product offensive in the last few years that is bringing lots of new customers from the business sector to our brand.”

Volkswagen names new MD

Simon Thomas will head the UK division of the Volkswagen Group from the start of next month.

He will join the VW Group as Managing Director from 1 September after 20 years with Nissan and leaves from his role as Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing, a position he has held since April 2009. 

Outgoing MD Robin Woolcock, who has been with the group for 23 years, will take an undisclosed role within the group.

Volkswagen Group UK thanked Mr Woolcock for his leadership of the company over many years and paid tribute to his close links with the workforce.

SsangYong announce marketing leader

Steve Gray will lead the charge for SsangYong’s marketing as the Korean manufacturer re-enters the British market following two years away.

“This is a tremendous opportunity,” said Gray, Marketing and Communications Director for the brand’s UK arm.

“We are effectively a new company launching a new car into a new, fast growing segment for the brand, which means we can embrace all the latest tools in the digital toolbox without being constrained by convention.”

Steve’s first duty will making the biggest splash possible with the Korando (pictured below), the brand’s crossover SUV, which will be available from next month.

Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK, added: “I can’t think of anyone better suited to successfully re-position the brand and launch the new car.

“Having worked across Land Rover, Daihatsu, Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge, Steve has an automotive marketing pedigree that is absolutely tailored to SsangYong’s current position and the job we have to do.

Kwik-Fit Fleet will aim to expand its outright purchase fleet business by naming Martin Towers as their new Director for Corporate and National Sales.

With almost 20 years in the fleet industry, 49-year old Towers will head up Kwik-Fit Fleet’s corporate account and area sales departments, dealing with contract hire and leasing deals and outright purchase fleets.

Mr Towers, who has spent a total of 10 years with Kwik-Fit Fleet, said: “Over the years, Kwik-Fit Fleet has been hugely successful in winning business from the major leasing companies and our very strong focus in that sector of the market will continue.

“However, we are putting an added emphasis on relations with outright purchase fleets and look forward to taking our product offering to more of those organisations.”

Martin takes over from the recently departed Peter Bennett and will report to Sales Director Peter Lambert who said: “Kwik-Fit Fleet is entering an exciting new era under new ownership.

“Martin has huge experience of the UK fleet industry and his knowledge will bring significant benefits to the corporate sector.”

Kwik-Fit Fleet is responsible for supplying automotive parts and repairs to contract hire and leasing companies and outright purchase fleets throughout the country.

Remote Asset Management track down new recruits

Vehicle trackers Remote Asset Management has also beefed up its sales prowess on the back of at least new 50 clients coming on board every month.

David Sanders has come in as a field sales rep while existing telesales employee Paul Davies will also head out into the field.

Away from sales, Chloe Frampton has been brought in as Installations Advisor.

Chris McClellan, RAM MD, said their arrival came during an exciting time for the company.

“As sales continue to increase, we plan to further expand the team particularly within the sales and telemarketing departments,” he added.

“We know that our two most important assets are our staff and our customers. Our rigorous employee training programme and dedication to customer care have helped us to take the company to new levels and we estimate that our 2011 turnover will be 30% up on 2011.”

Paragon ‘Long’ for Rebecca

Logistics and specialist fleet managers Paragon Automotive hopes to bolster its Europcar account with the appointment of Rebecca Long (pictured).

She joins Paragon as Rental Account Manager after managing accounts for Volvo Logistics and Aston Martin over the last five years.

“I am delighted to join Paragon,” commented Rebecca, “and I am privileged to be given the opportunity to head one of the top accounts.

“My primary focus is to strengthen Europcar’s relationship with Paragon and further advance the high standards of service they have enjoyed up to now.”
