Comment: ASA CO2 Adverts Adjudication

The Association of British Drivers (ABD) welcomes the fact that two Government newspaper adverts have been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for exaggerating the dangers of projected future climate change. The ASA have also referred the TV advert to Ofcom for potentially breaching a ban on political advertising. However, we are disappointed, but [...]

Comment: ABD condemn plans for M20 variable speed limits

The Association of British Drivers denounces Highways Agency plans to impose variable speed limits on part of the M20 as an unnecessary burden on drivers and a waste of money.
The proposed ‘controlled motorway’ scheme between junctions 4 and 7 will see mandatory speed limits, varying according to traffic flow, enforced by digital speed cameras.  [...]

Comment: Police, RoSPA & BBC Illustrate What’s Wrong With Road Safety Establishment

An innovative idea to train young people to drive off the public road has been criticised by the police and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
A company called ‘Young Driver Training’, sponsored by SEAT, Admiral Insurance, and Pirelli, is offering driver training courses to children under 17 at dedicated centres.
The Police [...]

Comment: drivers caught ’speeding’ because the speed limit doesn’t match the road layout

In an interview in the Cambridge News, the police have admitted that drivers are being caught ’speeding’ because the speed limit doesn’t match the road layout. 50,000 speeding fines are being issued in Cambridge each year and 1900 drivers are offered a ’speed awareness course’ for driving safely.

Comment: Stern Review shows Tories are detached from climate policy reality

Conservatives are ‘nobbling’ democracy by failing to provide an alternative to policies based on unfounded climate alarmism.
Press reports suggest that the Tories intend to recruit Lord Stern, author of the Stern Review on the economics of climate change that has recently been shown to be erroneous, in order to advise on the creation of a [...]

Comment: UN IPCC Panel cannot be trusted

The recent “Climategate” emails scandal has been followed by yet more embarrassing revelations which demonstrate that the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports cannot be trusted on anything.
The IPCC view on the amount, causes and effects of climate change are all equally suspect – further vindication of the ABD’s long held stance on [...]

Comment: Cameron’s ‘broken’ thinking on green taxes and marriage

An un-named shadow cabinet minister has allegedly told The Daily Telegraph that the Conservative Party is committed to increasing green taxes in order to fund ‘family policies’, including the recognition of marriage by the income tax system, in the apparent belief that this will mend ‘Broken Britain’. Increases in motoring and flight taxes are said [...]

Comment: Buy a 4×4 not global warming alarmism

The recent wet summers and snowy winters, that the global warming alarmists of the Met Office failed to predict, have once again demonstrated the usefulness of owning a four wheel drive vehicle. The extra traction can be a life saver in the dry, wet, mud or snow and on un-gritted roads. Sadly, 4×4’s have been [...]

Comment: Boris’ Transport Strategy Ignores Snow and Ice

The ABD today revealed that in 23 megabytes and 354 pages of Boris Johnson’s London transport strategy, you won’t find the words “snow”, “grit”, “icy road” “frozen” or “freez(e/ing)”.
Weather is only mentioned at all in the context of ‘climate change’, though there is, of course, plenty on the things that the bureaucrats are interested in, [...]

Comment: Not Gridlock, Freezelock – we warned you in 2005!

The fact that the UK and much of the Northern Hemisphere is in the grip of another severe winter comes as no surprise to the ABD . Our November 17th 2005 PR ‘Not Gridlock, Freezelock’ was affirmed in a follow-up PR on 15th February 2006. Whilst the ABD prides itself in being a climate realist [...]
