Cybit Positioning Solutions Ltd, the UK’s leading online fleet tracking supplier, has received an extended an order for its Fleetstar-Online solution from OfficeTeam, the UK’s leading business services and products company, which will mean real-time vehicle information on a further 100 vehicles in OfficeTeam’s UK-based fleet .

Because Fleetstar provides OfficeTeam with more efficient vehicle routing, productivity is maximised and the company is able to support its corporate strategies to reduce carbon emissions thereby reducing the environmental impact of each vehicle across its 18 UK depots.

OfficeTeam’s continued commitment to working in partnership with customers to build an environmentally brighter business future has recently been shown through a number of market-leading environmental initiatives including: recycling services for paper, toner and furniture, in addition to re-usable packaging and environmental appraisals. Ensuring OfficeTeam vehicles are managed to their maximum efficiency by employing Fleetstar, they serve to further enhance their overall environmental strategy.

"Environmental issues are at the top of the agenda at OfficeTeam and vehicle telematics fits in perfectly with the strategies we already have in place," commented Bill Appleton, Group Operations Director, OfficeTeam.

"We use a number of electric vans and have added another 30 Mercedes Sprinters with start/stop technology, with a further 50 on order.

"The expansion of our use of tracking and vehicle reporting technology helps to effectively monitor vehicle usage to ensure that each journey is planned as efficiently and as environmentally friendly as possible.

“OfficeTeam aims to provide premium services to all of our clients and with the live vehicle information and routing provided by Fleetstar, we will be able to continue to deliver excellent service, whilst lowering the impact of our fleet on the environment through the reduction in the total mileage driven."

John Wisdom, Group Sales and Marketing Director, Cybit: "All businesses are looking at how they can maximise existing resources in the current climate and telematics is one way in which businesses can achieve these goals. The data and reports produced by Fleetstar can inform and support important business strategies, from cost savings to environmental targets, as OfficeTeam shows. There are significant benefits that companies can gain by investing in a telematics system."

Fleetstar-Online is Cybit’s industry leading, scalable suite of Internet-based mobile resource management and vehicle tracking tools. The high-quality data relating vehicle and job performance is captured in conjunction with location information, reported and analysed through Fleetstar. This allows meaningful business decisions to be made using up-to-the-minute information on operational performance.

Powerful reporting capabilities facilitate effective management of operational costs and productivity; support strategic initiatives around Carbon footprint; and increase compliance with legislation including Duty of Care and Health and Safety. The strategic importance of Fleetstar-generated information extends beyond vehicle tracking into the heart of the enterprise: Fleet derived information can be directly integrated into a range of business systems to improve the efficiency of the entire organisation. Fleetstar provides the business-critical information that organisations need to execute a clear and rapid path to return on investment.

Kwik Fit Mobile have selected Cybit Positioning Solutions Ltd, the UK’s leading online Telematics Service Provider, to supply their Fleetstar web-based fleet tracking system to their 200 tyre-fitting vehicles in order to manage growth in the corporate fleet mobile service [...]

Kwik Fit Mobile have selected Cybit Positioning Solutions Ltd, the UK’s leading online Telematics Service Provider, to supply their Fleetstar web-based fleet tracking system to their 200 tyre-fitting vehicles in order to manage growth in the corporate fleet mobile service sector.

Fleetstar-Online will enable Kwik Fit Mobile to manage and analyse mobile worker performance whilst enhancing the organisation’s employee duty of care provisions. The addition of the system will also provide a range of customer service options to build on Kwik Fit’s fast growing corporate servicing division.

Cybit’s Fleetstar-Online works via an unobtrusive GPS device located inside the vehicle that provides real-time positioning information, which is transmitted via O2′s GPRS network to Cybit’s servers. This data is processed into a broad spectrum of user defined and configurable reports, providing real-time fleet visualisation or historical analysis. The system can be accessed from any web-connected PC.

Simon Lucas, Operations Director for Kwik Fit Mobile says: "The implementation of Cybit’s Fleetstar Telematics system follows a period of strong growth as companies invest in more robust occupational road risk management procedures. The serviceability of customers’ wholly owned and grey fleet has become paramount due to recent legislation and the lengthening of fleet replacement cycles. Our mobile service provides customers with the ability to react swiftly to servicing requirements and planned inspections without taking their vehicles off the road."

"We will be using the system to manage the allocation of our mobile workforce ensuring that we allocate the closest and most appropriate resource to a customers premises. We will be protecting our employees by dynamically monitoring their driving times, speed and behaviour."
Cost Reduction & Mobile Workforce Productivity

"ROI will be measured in terms of workforce productivity and fuel cost reduction," continued Simon Lucas. "Our sector is increasingly competitive, our challenge is to maintain competitive advantage by seeking to reduce costs, improve efficiency and at the same time provide innovative customer service. The range of operational and management tools provided by Cybit’s vehicle tracking system will assist us in managing all of this."
Simon Lucas continued: "We found Cybit to be holistic in its approach, which enabled us to address many, if not all, of our concerns around customer service, overhead, managing growth, health & safety and our fleet’s Carbon Footprint. The solution will impact all across our mobile business."

The installation on Kwik Fit Mobile’s tyre-fitting vehicles follows an extensive trial within its Fleet Auditors team.

John Wisdom, Sales & Marketing Director for Cybit says that Fleetstar-Online’s modular approach provided Kwik Fit with the confidence that the solution can grow alongside use. "We are delighted to be working with one of the most prominent brands in the commercial vehicle servicing market to bring significant benefits to its customers in terms of response times and scheduling."

"The use of Cybit’s fleet tracking and vehicle data technology to provide real-time vision of the fleet away from base will also provide the capability to underpin strategic business decisions. Kwik Fit Mobile can reduce cost from its fleet in a range of areas, including fuel spend, process and preventative maintenance," John Wisdom continued.

RCS Logistics is a leading distribution, transport and warehousing company based in Northamptonshire and have a fleet (in excess of 50 vehicles), which provides same-day courier services; full load transport and single pallet delivery from their Corby based Head Office throughout the UK and Europe.
As a member of the Pallet Force Network and entering into partnership with PalletFORCE, RCS Logistics works in conjunction with other partners to ensure efficiency and fleet utilisation.
To streamline its operation RCS Logistics chose Fleetstar-Online to control its costs better.
RCS Logistics claimed that vehicle productivity is a key area for consideration in streamlining fleet operations and the RCS Traffic Team wanted solution that could provide total visibility of all vehicles, locations, routes and allocated jobs to manage planned vs actual performance.
As well as managing the day-to-day operational processes and procedures, RCS wanted a mechanism to monitor and implement long-term cost control programmes and provide their managers with tools to better manage resources in order to sustain a competitive advantage
So, the result was that RCS Logistics selected Cybit’s online vehicle tracking and telematics solution to provide clear visibility of all vehicles across the UK, enhance day-to-day allocation of deliveries as well as provide information which would assist in future strategic decision making.
Darren Beaty, Operations Director for RCS Logistics explains the motivation behind installing Fleetstar-Online, “We had been looking at ways to leverage our competitive advantage in the haulage and distribution market and recognised telematics as an ideal tool to achieve this. We knew that by enhancing the visibility of vehicle movements and giving our central Traffic Team access to this data we could provide our customers with accurate delivery information and on a more strategic level develop our existing operational procedures.”
Fleetstar has allowed RCS Logistics’ Traffic Team to better distribute workloads to drivers across the UK and to streamline co-ordination of reactive jobs that are logged each day.
Darren Beaty added, “In addition to giving all our administration staff access to the system, we also have Fleetstar-Online running throughout the day on a large screen in our control centre. At a glance any of our Traffic Team can clearly see live vehicle locations and monitor delivery progress – this information can then be confidently communicated to our customers. We have always been aware of the cost implications of inefficient usage of vehicles, for instance those, which are left idling for considerable amounts of time. Fleetstar-Online has given us the ability to flag up occasions where, for example our drivers have left vehicles running while at depots and allows us develop company polices with the aim to reduce these instances. Likewise, speeding has also been a key area for consideration for RCS – we take the Duty of Care to all our employees very seriously. Fleetstar-Online reporting functionality enables us to adhere to the stringent Health and Safety legislation through monitoring driver speeds and we have seen a 70% reduction in instances of speeding since Fleetstar’s implementation.”
Having installed Fleetstar-Online in 2005 RCS Logistics has seen significant cost reductions in a number of areas throughout the business.
Darren Beaty concluded, “ We wanted to make sure that our drivers understood why we had taken the decision to install vehicle tracking. They could see how they would directly benefit from the implementation in terms of optimised job allocation and enhances to the Duty of Care of our team. Our customers also see the advantages of Fleetstar – shorter response times to jobs as well as more information on delivery progress means that our customers have the reassurance that we will deliver. Fleetstar has now become an integral part of RCS Logistics operations”.

Cybit, the UK’s leading online Telematics Service Provider, has implemented its Fleetstar-Online vehicle tracking solution into the home delivery fleet of Abel & Cole, the UK’s leading organic food retailer.
Abel & Cole will use the Cybit system to reduce its Carbon footprint and benchmark all home delivery vehicles across its six national depots – making the distribution of its organic produce more efficient.
Abel & Cole has been a winner at the National Customer Service Awards in each of the last three years and will deploy Cybit’s technology to help enable its next phase of service development.
Ben Reardon, Head of Logistics Abel & Cole said, “We have had great success in growing our home delivery network throughout the past 20 years – starting from just going door-to-door to now having nearly 100 vehicles across the country. As a supplier of high quality, locally sourced organic produce, we feel we must also reduce our own impact on the environment. We have been trialling the use of plant oil as a fuel with Regenatec Biofuel systems – and strategically implementing vehicle telematics will further cut our footprint by focusing on efficiency in our operation.”
Cybit’s Driver ID module – part of the Fleetstar-Online solution – will provide visibility of fleet activity by employee to help Abel & Cole manage driver behaviour from a duty of care perspective. Abel & Cole will also deploy Cybit’s powerful Data Analyser solution to provide long-term analysis of fleet performance and measure the effectiveness of management programmes over periods of weeks, months and years.
Ben Reardon concluded, “Cybit’s install team has worked closely with our operations team to ensure that the system will add real value to our business: optimising the effectiveness of our existing operations and helping to manage future growth. We never air freight our produce and environmentally friendly road transport is a fundamental principle of our business. Home delivery organisations have a massive cost and operational efficiency burden, because they have to coordinate complex routes, maintain a high level of service for their customers and remain competitive on price,” commented John Wisdom, Sales and Marketing Director, Cybit. “Abel & Cole’s vehicles typically make between 60 and 100 separate drops every day. We are providing them with the tools to dynamically manage the entire fleet, ensure delivery schedules are adhered to and managed most effectively. Online visibility and activity reports allow Abel & Cole to take steps to reduce its carbon tyreprint.”

Telematics giant, Cybit has announced by looking at its data, that the effect of this month’s heavy snowfall was a 20 per cent drop-off in road traffic across the UK.
The lowest road daily fall in usage was 25 per cent. In contrast, many gritting vehicles were being used for an average of 18 hours per day throughout that week.
Cybit tracks almost 50,000 vehicle based assets and records in excess of 10 million live vehicle positions per day through Fleetstar-Online, the Internet-based Mobile Resource Management (MRM) and vehicle tracking suite.
This data is also used by one of the UK’s leading live traffic information providers, to deliver its service. After recording their lowest levels on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th, traffic started to recover on the Wednesday and Thursday, only to fall to 82 per cent of its normal level on Friday 6th.
Richard Horsman, Cybit’s Chief Executive Officer stated, “It is no surprise to see that there was some drop-off in traffic on the roads during a week of heavy snowfall, but for there to be 1 in 5 commercial vehicles not travelling represents a dramatic effect on the productivity of these organisations and the economy as a whole. Our technology collects positional data every 20 seconds, which means we have access to a very large amount of high quality information. This information helps identify many of these trends that run throughout UK fleets. A big part of using the Fleetstar system for individual organisations is assessing information over a length of time to identify trends within the fleet – and this is an instance where we can clearly see productivity dropping off in a particular week. This kind of information is valuable to every one of our 2,000 plus clients.”

Cybit has made its guide to Compliance & Road-Related Work Safety available at its website (www.cybit.co.uk) as a free download.
With the Health and Safety (Offenses) Act 2008 following the Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act 2007, it reinforces the need for both private and public sector companies to focus on Health and Safety, including work related road safety which accounts for more than 1,000 fatalities each year making it the single largest cause of occupational fatalities in the UK.
These are serious acts, as the first of these Acts seeks is to threaten the organisation with large financial penalties; the Sentencing Council (SGC) could fine your company up to 10% of the annual turnover. The second Act takes a different approach as it targets individuals rather than the organisation. With the threat of fines of up to £20,000 or prison sentences of up to 2 years it can penalise people at all levels from employees to managers to Directors in the event of failures relating to Health and Safety.
It is clear that changes are needed in relation to occupational road risk. For example, while almost all companies have policies in place, nearly 4 out of 5 companies have no method of formally monitoring safety policy for employees driving on company business.
Much of this inactivity is down to ignorance. Many organisations do not understand that Health and Safety law applies to on-the-road work activities as it does to all work activities. Others do not appreciate that it applies to all work related journeys regardless of whether the vehicle that is being driven is owned by the company, leased or on Contract Hire from a Third Party company or whether it belongs to the employee. And all too many organisations do not appreciate that their responsibilities apply not just to their employees but to anyone who might be put at risk by work-related driving activities – i.e. the public at large.
However, some of this inactivity is down to avoidance. There are companies that are aware of and understand their responsibilities but have made the decision not to take any action.
In most cases this is driven by concern about the costs involved with complying with the guidelines that the Government has laid down for managing work related road safety. These are documented in “Driving At Work: Managing Work Related Road Safety” published by the Health and Safety Executive (document reference number INDG382).
The guidelines require companies to capture, record and assess information relating to drivers, vehicles and the journeys that are made. In the case of drivers and vehicles the information is reasonably simple to capture and record and only needs to be assessed periodically. For example annual checks on the penalty points on drivers licenses, eye-sight test results and MOT certificates.

Capturing information on journeys and breaks that are taken is a different matter altogether.
This involves records being generated every day and in many cases multiple records for the same day if an employee makes more than one journey. In many cases the sheer volume of records makes assessments difficult if not impossible if undertaken manually. More importantly, any system of records that relies on drivers providing information is inevitably going to be highly suspect and therefore, of limited value. Realistically no one is going to provide information which is in any way self-incriminating if there is no way for the company or organisation to verify or check the information.
There are however, advanced vehicle tracking systems such as Cybits’ Fleetstar solution that can generate exceptionally accurate and reliable journey records automatically and with no manual effort. They also provide analysis that enable companies to evidence compliance with the guidelines established by the Health and Safety Executive (INDG382).

May Gurney, the integrated support and construction services company, has installed the Fleetstar-Online solution – from leading Telematics Service Provider Cybit. The system from Cybit will be used – on the maintenance fleet of its Highway Services sector. The implementation has shown a saving of almost 10 percent in fuel costs alone within just three months.
Providing maintenance and enhancement services to the highways, rail, utilities, municipal waste and general infrastructure markets, May Gurney works primarily with the public sector and regulated sector customers across the UK. The installation comes as part of a broader corporate programme of efficiency to assist the delivery of May Gurney’s Sustainable Management Programme.
Martin Potter, operations director for May Gurney Highway Services said, “Having the Cybit solution has been a business revelation, both for tactical operation and corporate business efficiency management – even in such a short space of time. We are using the data produced to benefit our business from a cost, mobile worker safety and service perspective.”
The Highways sector performs largely reactive maintenance tasks such as repairing potholes, collapsed drains and damage caused by fallen trees. Because of the need to respond quickly, real-time visibility is highly important to May Gurney.
Martin Potter continued, “We need to see where our engineers are when an urgent call comes in otherwise we don’t know who’s in a position to deal with the incident most effectively. We now have all the live information available to effectively manage the process of identifying the most suitable resource – on a location and skill basis.”
In addition to the cost saving benefits, closer engineer management has also enabled uplift in service and end-customer communication.May Gurney Fleet Tracking
When identifying vehicle utilization, May Gurney has enabled further savings to be made: May Gurney has also reported a fleet reduction of five percent.
Potter added, “We use our fleet smarter now. We noticed one instance where one of our smaller vehicles was making trips backwards and forwards for most of the day, when a larger vehicle could have the same effect in just one trip – a far more effective use of resources. It fits in perfectly with our business-wide drive for efficiency as well. We have everyone in the organisation working towards making the business more efficient.
May Gurney believes that telematics is also having a positive impact on the safety of its mobile workers.
“We see highly informative reports that enable us to work with our drivers and make them more aware of where they can contribute – both in terms of the routes they take and their driving practices – most noticeably with speed and route planning where we can take preventative action alongside our drivers,” concluded Potter.
The Fleetstar-Online solution is fully web-enabled, which enables May Gurney’s different fleet and operations managers to all access the system at any time, from anywhere. This allows all major stakeholders in the operation to monitor activity and help further improve the service.
John Wisdom, Cybit’s Sales and Marketing Director said: “The key driver for uptake of this technology is that we give companies a wealth of strategic information around fuel, costs and care. Fleet tracking helps identify inefficiencies and areas of Health & Safety care very quickly. We are proud to be associated with a leading brand like May Gurney and look forward to working with them as a trusted partner on their telematics journey.”

Location, flow and spread of salt-grit monitored in real-time.

Whilst sub-zero temperatures are forecast for the remainder of this week, gritters throughout the country are working to keep the UK’s road network clear of snow and ice to protect motorists and limit disruption during peak traffic periods.

Telematics and GPS fleet tracking technology is deployed to assist wider maintenance organisations to manage their specialist winter maintenance vehicles. Over 1,000 of the UK’s gritting vehicles are now equipped with Cybit’s fleet-tracking solution that monitors and reports on a range of location-based information to control and manage the safety of the road network. This includes information on planned versus actual activity, and data that checks the rate and pattern of spreading, width and lane position. This instantly available information enables the user to remotely monitor the roads to check if they have been adequately treated to provide protection to the motorist.

Testament to the success of the technology, The Highways Agency, responsible for all of the UK’s motorways and major trunk roads, has employed Cybit’s services to monitor and track over 400 winter maintenance vehicles. . Other organisations utilising the vehicle telematics tools provided by Cybit include Colas PLC, Carillion, Enterprise, May Gurney and Councils including as Powys, Wrexham, Argylle & Bute, Milton Keynes and London based local authorities.

John Wisdom, Sales & Marketing Director said:

“The Cybit vehicle tracking solution provides real-time management of critical winter maintenance vehicles. The reports produced by the system provide managers with instant proof that gritting work has been carried out and allows them to see which areas need further attention and why – critical data when responding to unpredictable weather patterns.”

Joseph Hart, Senior Services Director of the Highways Agency commented:

“Cybit’s Government & Local Authority Division was able to demonstrate total focus and understanding of the needs of our organisation. The Company’s scale and experience of working on similar projects gives us confidence that they will deliver what will be Europe’s leading winter maintenance solution and enable us to deliver a world-class service.”

Councillor Geraint Hopkins, Board Member for Fleet Management, Powys County Council said:
“By installing GPS we can carry out in-depth route reviews for all operations and collect asset information, which will help us further optimise the use of our fleet and increase our efficiencies.”

Cybit, one of the UK’s leading online Telematics Service Provider, has won a major order from Enterprise plc, the nationwide provider of asset maintenance and refurbishment services for utilities, public and private sector companies. The Power Services Division of Enterprise will now implement Cybit’s Fleetstar-Online vehicle tracking into its entire LCV fleet – used to maintain overhead power lines and substations across the country for utility providers including the Scottish Power, SSE, Central Networks and EDF Energy.
Fleetstar-Online will enable Enterprise to analyse its workforce activities and implement strategic cost reduction, compliance with legislation and customer service enhancements. This is the most recent order in the Government and Utilities sector for Cybit and follows a period of strong growth by the company across the UK and Europe.
Nick Maggs, Managing Director, Enterprise’s Power Service Division said, “We expect real ROI from this solution in terms of workforce productivity and fuel cost reduction. The utility service sector is increasingly competitive and for us to maintain a competitive advantage we need to make strategic analysis of our cost base whilst maintaining our high levels of customer service and duty of care to our employees. The day-to-day operational tools and data provided by Cybit will enable us to achieve this. Cybit committed to provide us with a configurable solution – every time we put a challenge to Cybit’s software engineers and service managers they were able to come back with a positive answer.”
Cybit has established a leading position within Utilities, Local Authorities and the Public Sector through its acquisition of Amatics in 2007. Customers include Scottish Water, Northern Ireland Energy and The Highways Agency, as well as companies providing third party services such as Enterprise.
John Wisdom, Group Sales and Marketing Director, Cybit stated, “In the current economic climate more and more organisations are turning to telematics technology to provide a clear overview of their business. Telematics provides businesses of all sizes with the management information and tools to drive down operational cost whilst providing opportunities for service level initiatives that can aid future growth – we are proud to be working alongside such a nationally recognised brand as Enterprise.”
Cybit vehicle tracking technology is used throughout multiple divisions of the Enterprise group – including the Optima Infrastructure Management division and for the monitoring of gritters and gully emptying vehicles in the Enterprise Highways division.

Powys County Council has chosen to implement Cybit Telematics and Fleet Tracking system for Winter Maintenance and Highways services. Powys Council has awarded Cybit, the UK’s leading telematics provider, a contract to provide a range of vehicle tracking and telematics services for its fleet of 450 specialist maintenance, logistics and construction vehicles. The award of the contract is under a framework agreement and is one of the first of this nature to be signed. The agreement means that Powys County Council can now, for the first time, track vehicles such as gritters and gully emptiers and monitor their job status. Drivers and fleet managers can now see which roads have been visited by maintenance vehicles on an on-screen map and identify those which still need to be serviced. The new contract marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between Cybit and Powys County Council to deliver a broad range of telematics-based services that is designed to deliver future improvements for the benefit of the council’s stakeholders.
Councillor Geraint Hopkins, Board Member for Fleet Management, Powys County Council said: “By installing GPS we can safeguard the staff driving the vehicle if they get into difficulties and we can also increase the security of our fleet from the risk of theft. We will also be able to carry out in-depth route reviews for all operations and collect asset information, which will help us further optimise the use of our fleet and increase our efficiencies. The Cybit solution provides real-time management of Powys County Council’s mobile resources,” commented
John Wisdom, Group Sales and Marketing Director, Cybit. “The reports produced by the system provide fleet managers with instant proof that maintenance work has been carried out and allows them to see which areas need further attention and why – data critical in public sector operations.”
Cybit has fitted each maintenance vehicle with a GPS tracking unit and a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) and has specifically designed this solution for councils to monitor all specialist vehicles, including gully emptiers and gritters.
John Wisdom continued: “Powys County Council is the tenth local authority in Wales to take up Cybit telematics,. We now provide fleet tracking and telematics support to over 30 local authorities across the whole of the UK. Our success with local authorities in the last year clearly demonstrates Cybit’s knowledge and experience in delivering exceptional value and service to the local authority and public sector market,” John Wisdom concluded. “The award of a framework agreement like this is due to our targeted focus on this vital market sector.”
