Japanese car maker has confirmed that it will halt production at all 12 of its Japanese factories for 11 days in February and March as it tries to reduce its stock of unsold cars. When Corby Borough Council decided to set an environmental example on Northamptonshire roads it looked to Toyota – and the council is now running five cars that will save on fuel costs and carbon emissions by the tonne. The council has made two Toyota Prius hybrids available to all its employees travelling on council business since the start of September. EDF Energy and Toyota have teamed up to road trial the first Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle – a Toyota Prius. Trials start now and will continue for more than one year. Toyota has confirmed that it will give its third generation Avensis its world premiere at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. Alongside the flagship model and fleet favourite, the Japanese maker will also have a production-ready iQ and an Urban Cruiser on the stand. The British-built, Toyota Avensis will make its world debut on 2 October at the Paris motor show. The car is due to go on sale in January 2009. The latest global vehicle production figures have shown that the top three Japanese makers are on the up despite the global doom and gloom in the financial market place. HPI has announced that the company has agreed a new three year contract with Jemca, one of the largest Toyota groups in the South East. Under the new agreement, HPI will provide a range of services including its NMR investigations, Dealer Exchange, HPI’s online stock location and online publishing system, and short-term insurance cover product, Driveaway. Japanese giant, Toyota has confirmed that it expects to sell fewer cars this year than it predicted due to the UK credit crunch and the weak US market. With two of its biggest markets close to a standstill the firm has lowered its sales forecast from 9.85 million to 9.5 million vehicles, although this would still represent a 1% increase on last year. Telecommunications giant has extended its relationship with Toyota, following a review of its fleet requirements. The new deal will see THUS take delivery of a number of Avensis, Auris and Prius models for operational staff over the next three years, with Avensis 2.0-litre D-4D diesel hatchbacks likely to predominate.
