Fleet Recruitment Agencies Guide
Managing a fleet can be a time consuming process: and this can be affected further by employees being off the road for lengthy periods, such as due to injury or illness or maternity leave. Suddenly you need to bring in new staff: which could rely on a lengthy recruitment process: that is, unless you have someone to do the hard work for you.
This is where fleet recruitment agencies can be so effective: making the process of finding staff that much more efficient and cost effective.
What is a fleet recruitment agency?
Fleet recruitment agencies will help you source drivers and other employees when you need them. They are generally designed for both employers and job seekers and act as a portal between the two.
So, for example, a job seeker approaches a recruitment agency looking for work. This recruitment agency will then interview the jobseeker, find out about their key skills, and establish a profile for them: they may even ask them to sit tests or engage in certain forms of training to assess their capabilities. Then, when an employer needs new staff the recruitment agency can look through its database of jobseekers and quickly find someone who is suitable for that position.
Isn’t it simpler to find new staff without a recruitment agency?
Clearly fleet recruitment agencies are not free to use: and so you may think that it is more cost effective to source new staff yourself. While this may be true in some instances, bear in mind that the process can be time consuming.
For example, you will need to advertise for employees: which in itself can be expensive, such as taking out newspaper advertisements or registering with online recruitment websites. You’ll then need to carry out an extensive interview process and look through applications and CVs during your business time. Indeed even if you are fortunate enough to find a potentially good employee very quickly, you may still have lost a great deal of time and money by leaving the position vacant while this process continues: and this could see you lose work to rival companies because you are unable to fulfil the terms of a contract on time.
How do you know a fleet recruitment agency will provide you with the right staff?
There are, of course, no guarantees that an employee will be right for your business: there is always an element of risk when taking on a new member of staff. However, with fleet recruitment agencies this risk is at least reduced significantly.
Most recruitment agencies will test the reliability of their jobseekers extensively and will supply you with staff that they feel certain can meet your requirements: after all, their reputation depends on it and if they send you substandard staff then you are likely to seek out other options very quickly.
Effectively, fleet recruitment agencies have done the work ahead of time: they don’t wait for you to need an employee – instead they have already built profiles for people who could potentially work for you. This may include testing their knowledge and experience; while also creating detailed worker files and carrying out reference and other background checks. Of course, using a recruitment agency will also be a two way street: and you will be expected to meet their requirements in terms of providing an appropriate duty of care to your employees and paying fair rates promptly.
Ultimately too, the choice on which staff you hire will fall on you. The recruitment agencies may do the hard work for you: but you will still have the final say about whether you think a jobseeker has the profile to meet your needs.
